NFL Officials-not a great weekend

It was embarrassing. If Tagliabue has an ounce of smarts, heneeds to call them together and ask what the hell they're doing. And why it seems the best officials were home this weekend. Is there any merit to playoff assignments?

By and large, the Sewaks/Skins games went off without a hitch.

But as to the other 3, seesm like the refs got caught up in the home team and thier fans. Consider-

Pats/Broncos: phantom late psdd interference call on Samuel was pivotal. The Broncos OL pretty much held all night; Seymour was practically tackled every play. No matter what-they ahve to review what holding is and what pass interference is. Clear that one angle that showed the INT return should have been a touchback was never looked.

Steelers/Colts: Polamulu had the ball and was running with it. There's no doubt. Theyr reviewed a call and still managed to blow it.

Bears/Panthers: Bears get 6 1st downs on penalties. More phantom interference on Lucas; Peppers should have had a TD-again, review resolved wrongly in favor of the home team. Holding all day on both teams. Except 2 defesnive holding on a Panthers' DL. Screw the rulebook in the playoffs; just roo, root root for the home team. And on the final INT, allowd play clock to run out, but didn't bother calling that penaly against the Bears for fear of embarrassment and John Fox dismantling Soldier Field with his bare hands.

All 3 cases it seems like the home crowd may have played a factor. Are the refs intimidated? No matter-pass interference is all over the map. Holding is pretty much allowed. And key plays reviewed are still wrong. Straighten this out or it will get even worse.

A few others

Steelers/Colts- The 4th and 1 fiasco. The refs totally embarrassed themselves. OK, so they missed Faneca's false start but then you have to give a penalty to the Colts for offsides. You just cant say there is no foul on the play because the offense did not move. Thats just unheard of. .

Bears/Panthers - The refs ruling a TD when Thomas Jones clearly fumbles 1 yard before the end zone. The ref is right there at the goalline. What the heck are they watching?

The NFLreally needs to get back to the drawing board with this illegal contact stuff. When a receiver RUNS into the defender how the heck is that illegal contact? Can we atleast give the DBs a chance to compete?

And I am all for ditching the instant replay because time and time again they get too many plays wrong after the review. Makes you wonder if they are watching cartoons in the booth.
