After college, he was drafted by the New York Jets in 1993, and he was their MVP in 1996. He went on to play with the Chicago Bears and was a significant player on the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots in 2004. In 2000, he founded the Fred Baxter Foundation to support the academic and physical development of disadvantaged youth and families through existing charities nationwide. Fred is currently coaching football and golf at Widener University.We had such high hopes for Fred Baxter but he never really did anything of note. Had some solid games but a disappointment over all. He, chris baker and Jeff Cumberland were supposed to be an answer at the TE position for us but not to be. He had a good career but didn’t do for us what we’d hoped. Let’s hope Herndon and Wesco can be here a long time to give Sam that long term TE security blanket that so many great QB’s have had at their disposal. Todd heap, gronk, Dallas Clark, tony Gonzales, Vernon Davis, Jason witten, jay Novacek, Antonio gates etc etc. We’ve had a couple of decent guys but haven’t really had that entrenched security blanket since Mickey Shuler.
