How moving from #13 to #15 can help the Jets ..

Recommended Posts

Two ways to improve your team.

1. Get better players

- moving down means nothing if you strongly believe GB and NE have a different shopping list than yours.  This is why I believe the Jets are looking at OT, possibly a guy like Darnell Wright, who excelled in pass protection in the SEC

2. Weaken your competition

- this is where you can hurt the Pats.  It should be obvious that both GB and NE are in the WR market.  Both have glaring needs and are looking to support their young QBs

- allowing GB to leapfrog the Pats paves the way for GB to take the best WR available in a weak WR draft, thereby hurting the Pats

Jets get their player and hurt the Pats at the same time.

Both of those are certainly possible. Depends what they intend on doing, too.

If they think they’ll get the same guy at 15 they would’ve at 13, he’ll be cheaper. Don’t trade down for that reason, but it’s a bonus.

I do think that telegraphing that they want a tackle the way they have and then sliding behind a Patriots team that trades down a ton is just asking for another team to jump ahead of them at 14 and grab a tackle. So I’m a little curious what’s going on there.

On a different note, this is a class without a bunch of first round caliber players. Jets are right now towards the back of the first round caliber player range.

So, they could stick and still be confident that they’ll get one of their first round caliber players.

Alternatively, they have given up pretty hefty capital for Rodgers - so they are without a third this year and without one pick in the top two rounds (probably the first) next year.

If they want to move down and pick up capital, teams who want to secure one of the first round players will probably get more antsy about trying to jump up towards the back end of the range - so they may be better positioned to move down at 15 than they would’ve been at 13.

Thanks for a thoughtful response.  Agreed..

Agreed. Still ahead of Washington, Pitt & Giants. Hoping we can get a 2nd or 3rd rd. pick to move down.

Thursday can't get here soon enough!! LFG!

With Tom Brady as his starting QB Bill Belichick is

  • 219-64 as a coach.
  • He has 17 playoff appearances in 18 years with Brady starting the majority of the games.
  • He's 30-11 in the playoffs
  • 17 Division Titles
  • 9 AFC Championships
  • 6 Super Bowl Titles

With anyone other than Tom Brady as his starting QB Bill Belichick is

  • 79-88 as a coach.
  • He has 2 playoff appearances in 9 seasons.
  • 1-2 in the playoffs
  • 0 Division Titles
  • 0 AFC Championships
  • 0 Super Bowl Titles

Who cares who the Patriots draft? They're irrelevant.
