That was a great win. The Jets finished the season 8-7-1. They blew two games to the Chiefs they should have won (tie and a loss). Had they won those games they would have made the playoffs.

Really strange that we played an out-of-division team twice in the regular season.

In those days there was  what was known as the “last place schedule.” In 1987 the Jets finished last. So in 1988 the Jets played the Chiefs twice because they finished last in 1987,  and the Lions and Giants were the only NFC teams they played because they finished last in their divisions. The rest of the AFC East played the NFC central (Vikings, Packers, Buccaneers & Bears) , except the Lions who also had a last place schedule.
