faba
Garden chief: Isiah has one year to show progress with KnicksBy BRIAN MAHONEY, AP Basketball Writer June 26, 2006 NEW YORK (AP) -- Isiah Thomas has one year to turn around the Knicks -- something Larry Brown couldn't do. And if Thomas doesn't, he'll be gone, too. "I'm saying this right with Isiah here. This is his team," Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan said Monday. "He made this bed. There's nobody better than him to make this thing go forward. But he has to do that and he has one year, one season to do that," he said. "At this time next year Isiah will be with us if we can all sit here and say that this team has made significant progress towards its goal of eventually becoming an NBA championship team. If we can't say that, then Isiah will not be here." The remarks by Dolan were his first since firing Brown last Thursday and replacing him with Thomas, the team president and general manager. He acknowledged that the team "made a mistake" hiring Brown. Thomas assembled the roster that went 23-59 to tie the franchise record for losses in a season. And though Dolan said the Knicks are still rebuilding, he wants to see results next season.
PeterNorth09
Dolan is a joke. Even if Dolan fires Isiah he won't replace him with anyone good. The man is incompetent. The only reason he is rich is because of his father. The guy is a knucklehead and his management of the Knicks and Rangers shows this. James Dolan has an awful track record with hiring coaches and GM's. Scott Layden, Don Chaney and now Isiah. Lenny Wilkens and Larry Brown were both too old guys who were obviously just looking for a payday from the Knicks. When Jerry West was available a couple years ago Dolan didn't even make an attempt to call him. Which dud will Dolan hire after Isiah is gone? Probably another guy with zero track record who won't ever disagree with his dumbass.

Granted both of these guys are past their prime, but they were respected NBA pros. And he treated them like pilferers of sliverware at a dinner party. And now he's trying to get the NBA to stop payment on Brown's contract(which probably won't happen). If you're a quality GM or coach, knowing this going in, why would you work for Dolan? The basis is that Brown spoke on the phone to possible NBA trades with various parties around the league. He couldn't make trades without Thomas anyway. But isn't that exactly why you want a seasoned and respected pro like Brown on the payroll? He's connected to everyone; you'd expect him to do exaclty that. The next coach and GM are gonna have to ask Dolan's permission to uese the phone and go to the bathroom. Thomas may already do so.

Best Knicks jerseys are the St.Patty's Day jerseys.
Barton
The Knicks will definetly win more games next year than this past year but it will just be them topping out, they wont get much better from that, unless a miracle happens.
PeterNorth09
Good f'n luck. If Isiah finds a way to win 30-35 games, he'll be back. I agree. If the Knicks win 30 games next year, which they probably will, expect Losing Isiah to be there for the next 5 years. My dog is smarter than Scott Layden and he got how many years to run the knicks into the ground? James Dolan is a joke. Please, somebody rich buy the team away from this loser. mbn007
Worse than that-who would work for the Knicks? This is the problem in a nutshell. If you are Jerry West, or any of the top GMs in the game, why on earth would you work for Dolan? Don't tell me about the glory of working in NY, and all that garbage. There would be more glory in restoring Boston to a Championship team then the Knicks.
