Bears FG Return-why don't mroe teams do it?

AN incredible play. He walks off like he's just going to hand the ball to the ref, and then takes off. Bears did the same thing with Nathan Vasher vs. the 49ers last year.

Mike Golic pointed this out this morning. Most FG teams consist of a kicker and a holder, 5 or 6 offensive linemen, 2 or 3 DL guys and may be a LB or 2-very rarely top flight speed at all. So on a long FG, if you put a speedy guy back there to try to run it back, you have 10 guys blocking on 9, and none of them are speed demons. I'd be surprised if most ST coaches aren't trying to incorporate a FG return on their long FG block squad as of this morning. You aren't going to do it every FG, but when you get to 45+ yards, we might see more of it, and it might discourage long FGs.

Didn't Aaron Glenn return one of those for us once?

You are always taking a chance on returning a missed FG. Chances are if it is short allowing the returner to catch it in the end zone, the kick is probably a long one (45+) meaning that is kicked from around the 35 yard line or further. If the kick is missed, the defensive team would get the ball on the 35 or wherever the kick was attempted. In reality, the chances of returning the ball to the 35+ yard line on a runback is probably pretty slim, leading to a new a-hole tearing from the coaches.

Yeah, but if you have a dynamic returner like Hester, it may be worth a shot....
