T-Mac
Almost time to book my road trip to the Jets game at Buffalo. Normally I wouldn't even consider going up there, but Rutgers plays at Syracuse the day before. My question to the Hick Nation is what hotel is closest to the Orangedome? Also, not sure if I'll be spending any time there or shuffling right off to Buffalo, but anything you can tell me about the nightlife/restaurants/pubs will be greatly apprectiated. Bob
There are lots of hotels around Carrier Circle. A real Syracusan can give you better info on that. We always stay at my sister-in-law's house when we go there. As for nightlife, T-Mac, the number one choice for a guy like you (a man after my own heart, I might add), is Coleman's Authentic Irish Pub. http://www.colemansirishpub.com/ Unfortunately, I think their only live Celtic music is on Sundays. I also recomend the Suds Factory, a brewpub ( http://www.sudsfactory.com/ ) and Dinosaur Barbeque ( http://www.dinosaurbarbque.com/ ) a place for great food and blues music. They have three locations, now, but the original is in Syracuse. I have a friend with season tix for the Orangemen. Maybe I'll come up and help you diminish the Syracuse beer supply. T-Mac, I lived in Syracuse for 3 years. Stayed at the Sheraton on-campus for a few weeks during my relocation. Not a bad hotel and the dome is close by. http://www.sheratonsyracuse.com/ BTW, just make sure you hit the Dinosaur for some BBQ. Best BBQ I have ever had. T-Mac
In the pecking order of sports, lacrosse ranks right behind farting in the bathtub.Agreed, but they do take it seriously in Orangetown. This is the first time in 22 straight years the Cuse won't make the semi's. I tried unsuccessfully to get into the game last year when I watched the final while at ESPN Zone. It was about as exciting as the seminar lectures they force me to attend every year. Bob, it would be great if you could make the game. Lemme know if you need tix. I can order thru RU. Will also start checking on Jets tix.
TomShane
Mac, try not to stay near Carrier Circle because then you're stuck driving to the game and will be parking 20 blocks away and climbing the hill to the stadium. Instead, try the Marx, which is newly refurbished and is conveniently located at the bottom of the hill in between the Stadium and Armory Square. Otherwise, the Sheraton (or Radisson--can't remember) is a can't miss, right across the way from the Stadium. Bottom line is that you don't want to have to drive over if you can avoid it. As for night-life, Coleman's is nice, but you have to trek over to it. In Armory Square, Syracuse Suds Factory is nice and low-key if you just want to rip some beers. But there are about 20 bars in 5 square blocks for you right there. You can walk a few blocks west and eat at the Dinosaur, then come back to the square and pound. Get to the Dinosaur early, thouigh, because tourists fill it up later in the night and you'll be on line for two hours. Good times.
PatsFanTX
and will be parking 20 blocks away and climbing the hill to the stadium. That's not a "hill", it's a friggn' mountain. I took my folks to see a Cuse football game and I could have sworn I was going to lose both of them due to a heart attack.

Is it their fault that you're a bit out of shape?
Bob
That hill IS tough. As for getting to the game, there's a free bus that runs from the Suds Factory to the dome. You can tune up at the Factory and they'll even pour your beer into a plastic cup for the bus trip.
