one thing i love about the NFL and hate about baseball and NBA is the power of the unions. in baseball you cannot do anything w/players once they sign contracts, especially 10-5 guys like giambi, brown or sprewell and alan houston in the nba. they can basically do/say anything they want with little or no recourse - they are gauranteed their $.

in the NFL you pull crap like that and you are cut, no questions.

What was that all about anyway ? I heard that on Baseball Tonight that Payton has been designated for assignment.

Bradford is a submariner. Could be tough. MLB.com though has him currently on the 60 day dl. That may have been since opening day though since I don't see any numbers on this year.

Payton doesn't want to be a backup, he wants to play more. "He had difficulty with the role and it was time for him to move on", is what Francona just said on the Dan Patrick show.
