Rate the draft (2006)

The exercise of grading the 2008 draft is kinda dumb, it isn't really a grading the draft as much as saying I would have done things differently, despite having much less knowledge of the players than the teams do.

I would even say it is too early to grade the 2007 draft, many great players see little or no time their rookie year. However, I think we can grade the AFC East's picks for 2004, 2005 and 2006 with some level of intelligence, thought and and real football analysis

Jets - A- (we got 4 starters out of this draft and 4 backups, we retooled the Offensive line, maybe have a QB of the future)

Pats - B+ (They got 3 starters on offense their kicker and 1 backup)

Fins - F (other than the lone starter in Jason Allen a very poor draft)

Bills - B (the Bills got 3 defensive starters out of this draft)

I think the Jets get a square B for their draft.

D'Brick-struggling as a starter but still pretty solid.

Mangold-Soon to be a probowler, best value for the Jets this year.

Clemens-Still a little early to tell, but has potential. If he turns into a quality QB then this total draftgrade shoots up to an A.

Schlegel-bad pick.

Eric Smith-been a solid contributor, not great, but not bad.

Brad Smith-a calculated gamble, however he isn't progressing as we had hoped.

Washington-Fantastic pickup. Will be a solid NFL 3rd down back and kick returner for his entire career.

Posciak-Meh

Coleman-Not bad value, has had some good playing time and performed fairly well for a 6th round pick.

Adams-Not good, but 7th rounders rairly are.

Pats get a D for their draft

Moroney-Not the RB they envisioned when they drafted him.

Jackson-Their huge run on FA WR's showed their lack of faith in Jackson.

Thomas-decent blocker, nothing else really.

Mills-Who?

Gostkowski-decent but not Vinatieri by any stretch.

OCallahan- good solid back up. May become a starter.

The entire rest of their draft was useless.

Bills get a B+

Whittner-people were scratching their heads on draft day, but this was a solid pick.

McCargo-Has not really stepped up how they had hoped, though I still think he'll be a good one.

Youboty-Rounds out 3 quality starters with their first 3 picks.

Simpson-Good quality roleplaying DB.

Williams-another quality DT. He and McCargo will be their starting DT's for a long time.

Butler-wasted pick

Ellison-solid starter at LB

Pennington and Merz-like most 7th rounders they didn't pan out.

Dolphins get an F. Horrible draft.

Jason Allen-probably their only decent pickup.

Hagan-It's bad when Greg Camarillo is better than you.

Toledo-not even on the depth chart

Evans-not on the team

Wright-decent backup

Aromashodu-The only Aroma this guy emitted was that of donkey doodoo.

Jets: C

Brick, while not a bust, has underperformed given his draft position. At this point, he is the offensive version of D-Rob. Mangold and Leon are the only two standouts from a very over-rated draft class.

Patriots: C-

Are any of these guys, besides Maroney and Gostkowski, still on the roster? Props for getting a better kicker than Nugent two rounds later.

Bills: ??

Really not sure how good any of these players are. I don't really care about the Bills, aside from Losman and Evans.

Dolphins: F

I don't see a single contributor from that draft.

Aside from Anthony Schelgal in Round 3, the draft was solid.

Future All-Pro C in Mangold

Although he hasn't been great, D'Brick is a solid LT

Leon in the 4th round turned out to be a steal

Kellen Clemens will battle for the starting job this season, his third

Drew Coleman for a late round pick is still on the team and contributing on defense and Special Teams

Eric Smith is a good back-up / Special Teamer

Brad Smith is still developing, check back in the '08 offseason to see his true value

Pociask a waste, but a late pick, same with Adams.
