kelly
Veteran Jets players not in favor of drafting quarterback By Matt Sohn - April 9, 2009 While we continue to hear the Jets are comfortable heading into the 2009 season with their current cast of unproven quarterbacks, it's still very much a possibility that they'll be tempted by one of the big guns

Bachelors3
Kelly, If the Jets do draft a QB in Round 1 there may be a few reasons for doing so. One would be that they they think that young Bret will win the job and Clemens may be upset and have to be traded elsewhere. The other thing is that one may fall into their laps and they would have to give it their due consideration.

DoubleDown
People should take talent and roster evaluations from players with a grain of salt.
Green DNA
Kerry Rhodes playing at the same level as he did last year would also seriously hurt the Jets chances at returning to the postseason in 2009.
Sperm Edwards
look at Matt Ryan.. he didn't do too bad for his rookie season and the falcons made the playoffs xD so calm down vets Ryan was the #3 pick in the country. Flacco had the #1 defense in the NFL forcing punts & turnovers & surrendering 15.1 ppg, and 2400 rushing yards on offense. Roethlisberger - had the #1 defense in the NFL, surrendering 5.7 ppg, and 2400 rushing yards on offense. These three represent the entire list of QB's who made the playoffs as rookies in the last 20 years. Go back another decade and you can add Dan Marino to the list, bringing the total to 4 out of almost 400 drafted QB's. Now to an extent, this is somewhat self-fulfilling. The team that gets the premiere QB talent in the draft usually has many holes on both sides of the ball. On the flip-side, teams that don't have so many holes at other positions usually had a legit starting QB & they didn't need to start a rookie or inexperienced veteran. But still, there were well over 200 QB's drafted over that span (plus who knows how many undrafted ones), and exactly three made the playoffs as rookies. In two of the cases, they went to teams talented enough to be the best defense in the league AND enough talent at RB & run-blocking to amass a whopping 2400 rushing yards. Absent one or both of those things, Matt Ryan would be the only one on this list. It is rare - unbelievably rare - to make the playoffs with a rookie QB.
