Buzz up! 2 PrintCORTLAND, N.Y. (AP)—The New York Jets will conduct training camp at an upstate New York college campus for at least the next three years.

The team announced Monday that it will stay at the State University of New York at Cortland, right in the middle of the state. The team trained there last year, too.

The Jets announced an option to extend their stay for five more years.

The New York Giants have also trained in upstate New York for several years, at the University of Albany campus a few hours east of Cortland. There’s no word yet on whether the Giants will return this summer.

The Buffalo Bills have made St. John Fisher College in Rochester their summer home since 2000.

Jets reach multi-year training camp agreement with SUNY Cortland

The Jets announced a three-year training camp agreement with SUNY Cortland this morning with a team option to extend it to five years.

Rex Ryan spearheaded the move last season to promote team chemistry and eliminate distractions in his first year at the helm. The Jets will report to Cortland on Aug. 1 for training camp. First practice will be Monday, Aug. 2.

“As has been pointed out many times by our players and coaches,” owner Woody Johnson said at a news conference Monday morning in Cortland, “the chemistry and camaraderie established during our time at SUNY Cortland last year laid the foundation for what proved to be a memorable 2009 season. The school and surrounding community are gracious hosts and we look forward to continuing our relationship.”

The Jets’ move to Cortland last summer pumped $4.2 million into the local economy and attracted 34,000 spectators during the three-week long camp. This time, the Jets will be accompanied by NFL Films crew ready to document the team’s every move for the HBO “Hard Knocks” series.

The school also agreed to spend $320,000 to create a second grass practice field, renovate a dormitory for coaches and upgrade a student center used by the team. The state of New York’s Empire State Development program will give the university a $575,000 grant spread over five years to partially defray the costs.

“Last year, Cortland laid the foundation for the Jets’ winning season,” New York governor David Paterson said. “I am confident that the road to the Super Bowl will go through the same college town this season, garnering it the attention it deserves. I’m excited to welcome the Jets to Cortland not just for a single training season but for a multiyear commitment that will benefit both the community and the campus to the tune of millions of dollars and doubling the first year attendance. Central New York is a beautiful region and I am thrilled we can show it off to football fans and their families alike.”

On an unrelated note, f^ck the Jets.

If they're going to have training camp anywhere but their fancy new joisey digs, it should be on Long Island where the team's fan base has been forever.

That's great news. That's a real beautiful area and it worked last year.

Disagree, slats. Training camp wasn't happening at Florham Park and the Jets wanted to get away from Hofstra because it was too close to the city.

why did they build those facilities in florham park?? for nothing...

For nothing? LOL

You guys are nuts.

The Jets are in Florham Park 10 MONTHS OF THE YEAR

Training camp is only 2 months. That's it.

Where are the Jets' FO offices? Florham Park

Where are all the OTAs? Florham Park

Where do players rehab from injury? Florham Park

Where do the Jets practice during the season? Florham Park

There are other colleges in NY. Stony Brook is far from the city, and is another state school with a football program. Lots of open space to do what they want there.

I am okay with this but it is funny. The Jets moved away from NY\NJ to avoid distractions. It worked perfectly they made it to the Championship game.

This year they allow HBO to film every inch of the remote location. So much for avoiding distractions.

They're, correctly IMO, doing what the Bills are doing in trying to play to a bigger regional fan base. That's why the Bills play games in TO and have TC in Rochester. Seems like a smart business move.
