Jetfan13
The New York Jets have elected to pick up the 2017 option for defensive end Sheldon Richardson. Richardson will earn $8.06 million during the 2017 season, after cashing in on $1.78 million this year. He signed a four year pact worth $10.05 million with the organization following his selection at No. 13 overall three years ago. Richardson, 25, recorded five quarterbacks sacks and forced a pair of fumbles in 11 appearances last season after serving his four-game suspension to start the year after being found in violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Lined up beside Muhammad Wilkerson and rookie Leonard Williams, the three together would combine for 20 total sacks while fronting the league’s fourth best overall defense. Against the rush, the Jets ranked No. 2 overall, allowing an NFL-least five touchdowns by running backs. Richardson has 16.5 career sacks in 43 contests with the Jets. This is why I think you now see second contracts going for bigger and sillier money than ever before. (A) teams have more of it and (b) players want to really cash in as often they won't get a third contract, or at least not anywhere near as big. batman10023
agreed. also wonder if this leads to less hometown discounts - this is their one big contract. they probably should increase the performance bonuses during the rookie contract.
Jetster
This is why I was saying the Pats will have a tough offseason going into 2017. Collins, Hightower, and Butler will want to get PAID! If guys like Maxwell ect. get the ridiculous pay checks, these 3 will cash in. No one gives a "hometown" discount on that 2nd contract, it's too important to their future.
