Jets showing interest in Byron Jones

Recommended Posts

Just saw this on Rotoworld, I guess Cimini put it out there this morning:

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports the Jets are showing interest in free agent Byron Jones.
This doesn't come as a surprise for the CB-needy Jets. Trumaine Johnson's $12 million dead money hit likely locks him in New York for another season, but that shouldn't stop the Jets from making a run at Jones. Jones has also been linked to the Raiders and Eagles.

Trumaine’s cap hit is accelerated bonus.

Cutting him saves the Johnsons $11mm in cash.

Why is he still on the team?

Something to do with the new CBA —-

They’ll be able to spread the cap hit over two seasons if the new CBA is ratified.  Otherwise it’ll all hit this year.

My guess, the day the CBA is signed he’s gone.

Why would we be locked in on the dead money hit.

the guy Johnson is trash. We save at least a few million by cutting. Good riddance. Wtf. Cut this guy

Yeah, he's gone.  Jets save $3M by dumping him, guys worthless.

As mentioned above he is only still n the team over some CBA techs.

Exactly.

Don't understand what the rush would be to cut him, there's not advantage to dumping his worthless ass today.  In fact his biggest contribution to the team might be to stay on the roster a few more days/weeks until the new CBA is ratified

This is right.  If they cut him today its old CBA.  If the new CBA is agreed, they will not be able to recharacterize how they cut him.

He gets cut regardless, basically right before the deadline in his contract.
