The fact that anyone would criticize the staff or JD for giving Tyron Smith the rest days is astounding to me.  Not only is he easily talented enough to be afforded these days off to assist in keeping him healthy but it also allows our future LT to get first team reps - literally the definition of win-win.

Teams tend to have unrealistic expectations for first rounders and good organizations tend to bring their rookies along slowly as they are usually picked to replace a veteran in their second year.  Going from college to the pre-draft/combine, then flying all over for team meetings, then the draft, minicamps, etc is a HUGE drain on these guys and to have the opportunity for a rookie to learn behind someone is a huge benefit to their long term success.

Cant wait to see McDonald take a big leap and quiet his critics.

Great post! The problem is that with some Jets "fans" (and I use that term lightly), they are so embittered and cynical after all the years of losing, of being disappointed, frustrated, and angered by the stupidity of Jets owners, their incompetent hires at GM and HC, and all the lousy drafts, they are only marginally Jets fans.  There's a thin line between love and hate, and sadly, some of those "fans" have crossed the line and all they can do is criticize and hate.  It's one thing to remain skeptical, to take a wait and see approach or "prove it" then I'll get excited approach, but quite another to look for opportunities to criticize and spew venom towards the Jets and everything they do.

Anyone who knows anything about football at all should know that this is a win-win.  We literally have the top pass blocking LT in the game as our starting LT this season.  We have one of the top two LT prospects in the draft backing him up, having the opportunity to learn from Smith, getting lots of reps when Smith rests, and this will speed up his development so that he will play at a much higher level whenever he takes the field.  It's likely that Fashanu will wind up starting at least 2-3 games this season, maybe more.  It would be great if Smith could accomplish the unthinkable and play every game this season for the first time since 2015, but that's not likely to happen.  If it does, so much the better.  We'll get topnotch play at LT all season, Rodgers should stay healthy, and Fashanu will be ready to start and play at a high level next year.

Part of the griping is also coming from those who wanted Bowers or wanted Odunze or Nabers.  Those guys were wrong about what the Jets needed to do in the draft.  We didn't need another #1 WR.  We needed a topnotch LT to back up Smith and to start in 2025 and going forward and a #2 WR.  That was the only thing that made any football or common sense.  JD was foolish enough to try to trade up for Odunze.  Thank God he failed to trade up.  Now with Fashanu and Tippman we have 2/5 of our starting OL going forward.  If AVT can prove that he can stay healthy this season and play at his previously high level, we'll have 3/5 of our OL going forward, and should not have any more years any time soon where the OL is awful and a revolving door. Rodgers should be able to stay healthy, and the Jets have a winning season.

At WR, Lazard is looking like he has turned things around, Gipson looks like he has raised his game a notch or two, Brownlee is starting to show, Corley is learning and developing, and even Malik Taylor is making some plays.  Williams is ahead of schedule in his rehab, and is working on the side.  Ruckert is looking good so far, Yeboah has improved, and we know that Conklin is a good TE. Breece is looking like Breece and Braylon and Tarik Cohen are looking good.  Rodgers will have targets to throw the ball to.

This goes for every business. The owners take the risk, they make the money. If it didn't work that way, who would open a business and where would we shop?

I totally disagree.  That's a line of BS that greedy business owners have fed the American people, and sadly many have bought into that thinking hook line and sinker.   There are businesses out there doing very well where the emloyees own stock in the business and share the risk, and where employees are paid fairly commensurate with their knowledge, experience and quality of their work.  It can be that way in every business, but many business owners are control freaks or greedy and want to get rich on the backs of their employees.

My guess is that Fashanu gets 5-6 starts. Reason being that is that he isnt a normal backup. If smith even has a tweak or small injury, theres no reason not to let Fashanu play for a game, get those reps, and let smith heal so he can continue to stay healthy.

I do think we need to see Mitchell and Warren get a lot of preseason reps at RT because it would be nice to have someone learn behind Moses and hopefully be good enough to take over in 2025.

Some people just live to complain on this board no matter what the situation. It's just what they do and why I don't spend much time here anymore. It's just so tiresome especially when this team has a real shot to have a great year.

General Notes

- Players still in shirts and shorts

- Practice ran 1:55, I wonder if continuity on both sides of the ball (4th year
for the defense, 2nd year on offense with Rodgers) is allowing more work/reps
to be done in a shorter time frame.  Would be a good question for the media to
ask Robert Saleh

- Tyron Smith was given a "vet day off" and coached up Olu Fashanu when he wasn't
riding the bike.  With Smith out Fashanu took his reps with the #1's at LT

- Mike Williams is progressing in his rehab as he's now working with trainers on
the side field

- Morgan Moses is getting closer as he was more involved/physical in positional
drills

- Alijah Vera-Tucker was a full participant and back at his RG position

- I would say the offense won this practice as they remained fairly consistent
throughout.  Closing out practice by winning the "red zone" period and forcing
the defense to do pushups

Special Teams Notes

- Greg Zuerlein made his first appearance of the summer and was a perfect 6/6 from
the 30, 33, 35, 37, 45 and 55 yard line

Defense Notes

- A day where second and third level players made plays as they try to make the
back end of the roster or practice squad:

 * Michael Clemons set the edge well against the run in his reps and "tackled"
   Braelon Allen for no gain
 * Leki Fotu and Takk McKinley teamed up on a "sack" of Tyrod Taylor
 * Jaylen Key (Mr. Irrelevant) had an INT as he picked off a 30+ yard pass from
Andrew Peasley to Marcus Riley.  Showing good range as he roamed from the middle
of the field to the sideline to make the pick
 * Jimmy Ciarlo (LB) got an INT as he snatched the ball from the hands of Kevin
Foelsch (TE) on a 10 yard pass
 * Finally Nehemiah Shelton (CB) made a leaping INT of a Peasley pass in the end zone

Offense Notes

- Breece Hall had a couple of TD's in his reps.  A 50+ yard run off a slick ball fake and
handoff from Aaron Rodgers.  And during the red zone period Hall caught a sidearm pass from
Rodgers after he retrieved a high shotgun snap

- Irv Charles is excellent on special teams but has work to do on his hands if he wants to
contribute at the WR spot.  He had a bad drop on a 15+ yard pass from Taylor

- Jason Brownlee made an appearance today as he made multiple tight window catches from Taylor
and Peasley in his reps

- Braelon Allen is going to be fun to watch in the RB rotation.  He has the size of a LB and
is willing to run up the middle but has very deceptive speed which allows him to get to the
outside

QB Notes

- Another good day for Aaron Rodgers as he had multiple TDs to Hall, Malik Taylor and Tyler
Conklin.  But what was fascinating to watch was how he uses his cadence and pre-snap motion
to decipher what the defense is doing.  On one rep he did the following:

 * Used a cadence change to get someone on defense to jump, that didn't work
 * He then sent the RB into motion, the LB didn't follow him indicating they were playing zone
 * Finally he sent a WR into motion, the CB followed across the formation indicating the
   secondary was in man
 * With that knowledge Rodgers then called for the snap and attacked the man coverage in the
secondary as he zipped a 15+ yard completion to Allen Lazard

- Tyrod Taylor with a couple of nice plays on the day, a 40+ yard bomb to Malik Taylor over
Qwantez Stiggers.  And a "4th down" TD to Jeremy Ruckert during the red zone period

- Andrew Peasley continues to indicate that he could be worth investing in.  Even though he
didn't hit on his bomb attempts he showed good vertical arm strength.  Peasley also showed
decent anticipation as he threw a 20+ yard pass to Kenny Yeboah before he came out of his
route

Standouts

- Aaron Rodgers
- Backup defenders

Once again, thank you for the 1st rate reporting. No fluff nor agendas… just solid observations. It’s refreshing.
