Jets' draft could be smart but dull

NIGHT STALKER

We shall see how this draft plays out. But I like the fact that they got 2 starters in the first round, added a 2nd rounder for next year, and I like this kid LB from Ohio, Anthony Schlegel.

Not a barnnurner, but a solid draft.

what the Jets did with their picks after round 3 is go for role players and character guys - note this is not the same as going after pure special teamers like Derek Pagel - they were trying for starter quality players that would hustle and positively affect team chemistry.

People want to get superstars at every position - if it was up to the fans there would be 53 superstars on the roster - history has proven that's a very risky way to draft - if you fill the docket with alot of high upside/high risk players more often then not you are left with nothing to show for it.

The Jets got their potential superstars in rounds 1 and 2 - the rest of the draft was about filling very specific roles and improveing the team character and locker room chemistry.

A successful football team doesn't need 53 super stars. 10 or so superstars with 43 try hard guys that will run through a brick wall will do just fine. The Jets actually do have talent on the roster - what they didn't have was character in the locker room - this draft improves that aspect of the team - it's not an aspect that you can quantify but it is just as real as the "upside" of a potential star drafted in the 3rd round and beyond.

also IMO Jets fans are really underrating Kellen Clemens. This guy taken at 49 has just as much chance to be a great QB as the guys taken at 10 and 11. The guy taken at 3 will probably bust. So really what's the logic of saying it's a 3 QB draft and after that they didn't address the need? history has proven that starting quality, if not franchise QBs can be found outside of the 1st round.

Good Character and talent make good players great players - quote unquote from Mangini and Co. That is their mantra and they are sticking with it

there's a difference in the way Herm made the character judgement-this regime says a team-first player a guy who'll do whatever you ask is a player with "high character" while Hermway was looking for guys that'll run into a fire and save kids-both excellent qualifications but one is better suited for the NFL the other better for service in say the Fire dept.
