Let's pick him up for another 6 years, 20 mil. signing bonus. As Jets fans we need to focus on the positives, especially for players that should not have a starting roster spot. JonEJet
Don't know what game you've been watching, but Askew has beeen playing real well in his limited role Don't forget, Sowell was an afterthought for at least 5-6 years before he blossomed
spjets
BJ ASKEW will not be a JET next year... sucks at blocking..
124
I'm a big BJ Askew fan but unfortunately most likely he'll be wearing anything but Jet green next season.
The Big Green Douche
I think they are using Askew all wrong, he should get some touches. It seems that he usually does something positive when given a chance
lawngnome o-line
It's not his job to rush...he's a poorly converted rb, 4th on the depth chart, and is not big enough for his role.
The Big Green Douche
I agree that he shouldnt necessarily get carries, but i think he could help out in the passing game like sowell did
lawngnome o-line
It is on routes that position players like FB's and TE's run that is one thing we are lacking. Those two positions are maybe getting 2 receptions a game, and is a part of the jets offense that can be expanded. If defenses have to pull a safety in to help with a TE over the middle or a LB has to go cover the FB in the flat, it leaves gaps for the WR's to run free. Maxman
Schott doesn't seem crazy about throwing to the backs. I must say, it is a refreshing change.
Boozer76
There is no luxury for FB's that can run out for a pass and carry the ball if they can't block. That is the case with Askew. The guy is probably a decent receiver and RB, though he'd never be on the top of anyone's depth chart. But the fact is he can't block, and all FB's must be a solid blocker first before their playmaking skills come into the mix. TE is a different monster. If you have an OL that is sufficient in handling the rush, then you can get away with the luxury of a TE who doesn't block well but is a solid receiver. But if the Ol is shaky then the TE's blocking abilities are far more important than his receiving abilities. Askew will never get significant playing time as a FB for any team until he learns to be an effective blocker for his RB.

Baker is a solid blocker i'm surprised to read bj is a lousy blocker

I have no complaints about schott & his playcalling whatsoever but I wouldn't mind seeing him try to get a swing pass to leon in some space. uart
Fullbacks are the most underused position in the NFL. I wouldn't mind if the Jets were the team to bring back the FB.
