So it is bascially legal to spear the QB but if the tap him with a forearm (Like the guy did on Brady on the Pats first TD drive) it is 15 yds for roughing the passer. Something is not right here. Mangini also said the team sent video of Thomas' hit, which appeared close to being helmet-on-helmet, to the NFL offices for review. I originally only saw the link to the news article, but I did watch the clip and that was pretty much the definition of spearing. No need to lead with the helmet when the shoulder is sufficient.
