He has been given a free ride for long enough and it is continuing during this cataclysmic Yankee tankjob! If I hear one more soundbyte where he insinuates that the Yankees problem is a loss of good character guys (Tino, Oneil, Brosius, Bernie) like they had in the late 90s, I'm gonna to go postal! Give it a rest, Captain Overrated! Lets be honest...they won those 4 titles because they had the best starting and relief pitching...we all know this! Those other dudes had very little to do with it!!! Torre/Zim/Stott had basically nothing to do with it! Now they dont even have a halfway decent bullpen and horrid starting pitching! His OBP is .423. As a leadoff hitter you can't hope for much more than that. But it is his fault because of something he said to the media. Okay, makes perfect sense. Also when did the Yankees have the best pitching? Must have been 1996 when 3 of their starters had ERAs over 4.68. 1999? 3 starters over 4.60. DJ didnt bring all these free agent busts in here! DJ is just partially to blame for this! He just really needs to shut his big fat piehole! Now, they didnt have the best individual pitcher, stat-wise on their roster during the championship run...but they had easily the best 1-5 rotation. Furthermore, guys like El Duque, Pettite, and Wells had a way of stepping up in big spots. Even Clemens exorcised his awful postseason rep by pitching well in big spots. Their pitchers also had a swagger during the "glory years" that NOBODY on this team has, PERIOD! Easily, the Yanks had the best bullpen during this time though! By far! Not even close!
