Cant Hackett
02:10AM - Jets Showing Strong Interest In OL Chris Patrick July 12th, 2007 by Gary Grund JETSCENTRAL.COM According to Scout.com, the Jets are showing strong interest in offensive lineman Chris Patrick for the Supplemental Draft. In addition to the Jets, the Vikings, Saints and Texans also are showing strong interest in the young Nebraska offensive lineman. Chris Patrick/OL/University of Nebraska: According to a league source, a top AFC team has actually given Patrick a fourth-round grade but because they have quality depth at the position, that team is unlikely to select him tomorrow. The Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, and New York Jets have shown strong interest in the former Cornhusker. The Jets bear watching. They are unlikely to use a pick in the draft to select Patrick but could make a run at him if he becomes a free agent. With the Pete Kendall situation unsettled, Patrick, a left tackle in college who projects to guard in the NFL, could be attractive to the team. A "strong interest" constitutes we'll sign him if nobody selects him? Just imagine reading before the draft about guys the team won't burn a 7th on, but would sign if they were available. Sounds like a big deal.
faba
CAn never get enough guys to bring in to try to develop- I doubt the Jets would sacrifice a pick on him though. Those Nebraska offensive lineman are in demand.

So he's worth signing as a UDFA but not worth burning a 7th-rounder to avoid competition in signing him? That's dumb.
Cant Hackett
Georgia's Oliver, Maryland's Gaither chosen in supplemental draft By John Clayton ESPN.com (Archive) Updated: July 12, 2007, 2:16 PM ET Comment Email Print The San Diego Chargers selected Georgia cornerback Paul Oliver in the fourth-round of the supplemental draft. In doing so, the Chargers will give up a fourth-round choice in next year's draft. Oliver left Georgia early because of grade problems. He was expected to be one of the top corners in the 2008 draft. His recent 40 time in the high 4.5s may have scared away a couple of teams, but the Chargers were looking for depth at the cornerback position. Starting cornerback Drayton Florence is a free agent after this season. Oliver would have the chance to learn cornerback and maybe help in the nickel pass defense over the next couple of years. The Chargers liked the player skills. They recently did a background check and liked what they learned. The Baltimore Ravens selected Maryland tackle Jared Gaither in the fifth-round of Thursday's supplemental draft. The Ravens worked him out right before the draft. They liked his size and speed. He's close to 6-9 and 325 pounds. He ran well at a workout Tuesday, timing around five seconds.
4HCrew
could not have liked him that much...there would be such a huge learning curve taking a player in this type of draft. Other than special teams this year would be a wash
