#90
Notes: Jets' special teams confused with coach in booth The special-teams confusion that led to an NFL-record 108-yard kickoff return by Ellis Hobbs against the Jets on Sunday was not limited to the field of play. One Jets player said that with special-teams coach Mike Westhoff upstairs in a booth rather than on the sideline to keep things settled, the relatively inexperienced special-teams players were "like chickens without their heads." Second-year player Wallace Wright had perhaps the best shot at Hobbs inside the Patriots' 10, but he took a poor angle and wound up missing. "We had some guys running free that were unblocked. It was just unfortunate for us that we couldn't make the play," Wright said. "We have to just go out there and not let that happen again. Ever. In life." Green DNA
He had some kind of leg surgery in the off season and they didn't want to take a chance on him getting trampled on the sidelines.
#90
Wasn't he on the sidelines for all 4 pre-season games? Hopefully, he will come back down to the sideline soon!
Irish Jet
Wasn't he on the sidelines for all 4 pre-season games? Hopefully, he will come back down to the sideline soon! I saw him on the sideline for the Atlanta game IIRC.
flgreen
He has a bone cancer. He has had several operations, one this past offseason. His leg is bowing, and if he doesn't take it easy on his leg, he will either have to retire, or lose his leg. There were several articles about it last week
JetCane
He had a large cancerous tumor in his leg a few years back, and has undergone several operations since then. he did not look particularly chipper in tc, and took frequent breaks. It cant be easy for him to be standing on the sidelines for three hours. One Jets player said that with special-teams coach Mike Westhoff upstairs in a booth rather than on the sideline to keep things settled, the relatively inexperienced special-teams players were "like chickens without their heads." They need to do a better job of having a guy on the sidelines relaying info from Westhoff to the STs so they get their heads screwed on right. Irish Jet
Yeah, I dont think its a coincidence that the Jets normally amazing ST give up an NFL record 108 yd kick return the day Westhoff isnt on the sideline.
#90
Can't we get him a director's type chair to sit in? This way, he is up high and he can talk to the players.
JetCane
Can't we get him a director's type chair to sit in? This way, he is up high and he can talk to the players. They were going to do exactly that, but after it was set up, some bum in the first row started making a big stink about his vision being obstructed, so they had to remove the chair and platform, and westhoff had to go up to the booth. There was a picture on the interwebs of the complaining fan...lemme see if i can find it...

Of course nobody was running them back very far when Nugent was using that "directional kicking" crap and dropping them in on the eight yard line.
