Panzer Division Marduk
So, you've gone to the JN Wiki, and you can't find one of your favourite players? What do you do? Simple, start one of your own. Hopefully this thread will be a bit of a help. Firt thing to do is pick a player. We'll take for example, Don Maynard. Now the thing is, the Wiki operates with surnames first, so the article has to be Maynard, Don NOT Don Maynard. So put Maynard, Don into the search box, and if the page doesn't exist you'll come to this page: Okay? Next, click on the create this page link and you'll be sent to this page: Then simply, go into to the box, and start typing.

Panzer Division Marduk
Okay, you're in the box, now. First off, a little guide to formatting and links, etc. Bold and italics The ' is quite useful. If you want to put a word or phrase in bold, you put 3 of them either side of what you want in bold. For example, Don Maynard will look like this Don Maynard If you want to italicise a phrase, you put 2 of them on either side. Example wide receiver will look like wide receiver. A little tip, if you're using quotations, just use a single ' on either side, or you may have some effects you weren't planning on. Formatting into sections and subsections If you notice, Wiki articles tend to be divided into sections, some with sub sections. How do you do this? You use the equals sign. = For a section title you would type ==Section title== For a sub section title, you type ===Sub section title=== And for a sub sub section title (if necessary), you type ====sub sub section title==== And to show how it works, we'll have 2 sections, background, and NFL career you just put a couple of words in to each section, and add a sub section to each. Don Maynard was a Hall of Fame wide receiver for the New York Jets. ==Background== He was born in Texas ==NFL Career== ===Before the Jets== Maynard played for the New York Giants. ===As a Jet=== Maynard signed for the Jets. ===After the Jets=== He played for the St.Louis Cardinals. This will look like this (by the way, I've only previewed, as it's advisable to preview repeatedly before posting the article up): Okay? Nice and simple. So, you then add some text, to fill out your article. Putting in links. So, for example, you've typed all this out. Don Maynard was a Hall of Fame wide receiver for the New York Jets from the years 1960 to 1972 and was a member of the Super Bowl winning team in 1968. ==Background== He was born in Texas, in 1935, and went to Texas Western College. ==NFL Career== ===Before the Jets=== Maynard played for the New York Giants. ===As a Jet=== Maynard signed for the Jets. Maynard's career reached a higher level in 1965 with the team's signing of Joe Namath out of Alabama. The duo would form one of football's all-time most feared and productive passing tandems. ===After the Jets=== He played for the St.Louis Cardinals. This should look like this: But, now you want to start linking to other pages. You use these and . If you want to link to the page for 1968, you put and on either side of 1968, like so 1968. For names it's a little different. As I explained earlier, the Wiki operates by Surnames, so linking to Joe Namath, you can't simply type Joe Namath. Joe's page is under Namath, Joe, but we all know that would look a little weird, so we use the | key to seprate the actual link from what text we want the people to see. As a result we type Joe Namath. The text will read Joe Namath, normally, but the link will send us to the correct Namath, Joe page. The same applies to the St.Louis Cardinals. Since they're now the Arizona Cardinals, we type St. Louiis Cardinals. The text will read St. Louis Cardinals, but the link takes us to the Arizona Cardinals. General rule of thumb, years and team names are fine with the simple and tags, but names need to have the | between the 2 version of names. So, your text box has this in it now: Don Maynard was a Hall of Fame wide receiver for the New York Jets from the years 1960 to 1972 and was a member of the Super Bowl winning team in 1968. The duo would form one of football's all-time most feared and productive passing tandems ===After the Jets=== He played for the St.Louis Cardinals. And it looks like this: As you can see, certain words are now different colours. Blue (or purple) are links to pages that exist. Red words are links to pages that don't exist yet. Clicking on those will take you to the edit page for those, so you can start editing those pages. But that's for another time, you want to finish Maynard's page. So you finish your text, whats left? you want to link it to the players category. Simple. Just type this at the end of your article, and that will add Maynard, Don to the list of players, and is an easy link to the players category. Then preview it just to make sure everything looks fine. You can now save your article.
Panzer Division Marduk
Adding pictures. So your article has now been saved, you want to add some pictures? Well, the wiki allows you to upload pictures to use. Uploading pictures We'll start with this one. In the tools sidebar, there's an Upload file link. Click it and it sends you here: So you choose your file (you should have it saved to your computer) and we're using the DonMaynard1.jpg, so you get this. Then hit the Upload File button. Your pic will upload and then you get this: Your picture is now up and available for use. Inserting pictures For inserting your picture, we use this little thing: Or if you've got a bigger picture, and want to shrink it down, you can use this: The 300px is the size that will show up on the page. By clicking on it, it will take you to the larger original picture. In both cases, your picture will show up on the right side of the article. If you are doing a long article, and you feel that having everything on the right side looks a little unbalanced, simply replace right with left. So getting back to Don, we use the , and insert the correct details. As the filename is DonMaynard1.jpg, you type it as this: You can put the image link at the very start of the article, before any text, so as to keep it at the top. Your text box should now look like this: Don Maynard was a Hall of Fame wide receiver for the New York Jets from the years 1960 to 1972 and was a member of the Super Bowl winning team in 1968. The duo would form one of football's all-time most feared and productive passing tandems ===After the Jets=== He played for the St.Louis Cardinals. And it will look like this: And that's pretty much it. Here's the finished page: http://www.jetnation.com/JetsWiki/index.php/Maynard%2C_Don (Admittedly I shall be doing more work on it in future, but I'll leave it like that for people to work from). Panzer Division Marduk
Spacing and stuff like that. If your article has some long sections, you might want to break it up into paragraphs. You do this by spacing it. Basically hit return twice after then end of your first paragraph. Another thing, make sure you always start you sentence, parargraph, section, etc at the start of the line. Don't begin with a space, or you'll find your work surrounded by a dashed green box, with the text rather small. * - is what you use for bullet points. *BUF - FG Norwood 25 *NYJ - B.Thomas 5 pass from O'Brien (Leahy kick) *BUF - FG Norwood 44 will look like BUF - FG Norwood 25 NYJ - B.Thomas 5 pass from O'Brien (Leahy kick) BUF - FG Norwood 44 To be honest, how I got started was by going to Wikipedia, opening up the "Edit this page" link, and copying it, changing the links to suit the links here. Just a matter of practice, it really is easy. Have fun
