SoFlaJets
Moss, Ellis and Martinez earn AFC weekly honors New York, NY (Sports Network) - New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss, New York Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis and Denver Broncos wide receiver/punt returner Glenn Martinez have earned AFC weekly honors for Week 11. Moss played an important role in the Patriots' 56-10 rout of Buffalo to help the team improve to 10-0. The veteran receiver hauled in 10 receptions for 128 yards and set a franchise record with a career-high four touchdown receptions. His four touchdown receptions in the first half tied an NFL record for the most touchdown catches before the half. The last player to accomplish the feat was St. Louis Cardinals wide receiver Roy Green on November 13, 1983. In the first quarter, Moss hauled in his 13th TD reception of the season and surpassed Stanley Morgan (12) for most touchdown receptions in a season in franchise history. Moss, who leads the league with 1,052 receiving yards, is in his 10th year from Marshall and it is his sixth Player of the Week Award and his second in back-to-back games. Ellis recorded five tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in the Jets' 19-16 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the fourth quarter with Pittsburgh driving in Jets territory, Ellis registered his second sack of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, stripped the ball away and returned it six yards to stop the Steelers' drive. Ellis, who tied Mo Lewis for fifth place on the Jets' all-time sack list with 52 1/2, won his first Defensive Player of the Week award. Martinez returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to give the Broncos a 14-0 lead en route to a 34-20 win over Tennessee on Monday night. The touchdown return was the longest for a touchdown by a Denver player since Deltha O'Neal in 2001 (86 yards) and was the first punt returned for a touchdown by a Bronco since Rod Smith in 2003. Martinez's touchdown return was a career-first, and he has totaled six punt returns for 123 yards (20.5 average) this season. In his second season from Saginaw Valley State, this is Martinez's first such honor. He joins Jason Elam (Week 2) as the second Bronco player to earn special teams recognition this season. Fair play to him, he had a great game. Why is though that Ellis and D-rob only show up after the bye week.
