GimmeShelter
By Ryne Crabb | November 30th, 2007 http://mvn.com/mlb-transactions/2007/11/30/yankees-loretta/ [url=http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php?pub=brosage&url=http://mvn.com/mlb-transactions/2007/11/30/yankees-loretta/&title=Yankees, Loretta] Buster Olney just reported on Mike & Mike that the New York Yankees are close to agreeing to terms with 2nd baseman Mark Loretta. This would make absolutely no sense unless they are planning on shipping Robinson Cano somewhere. Maybe for a certain left handed starter on a team desperate for a middle infielder. Hank Steinbrenner has been making it clear to anyone who will listen that Cano is untouchable, but remember, it is the same Steinbrenner would said they would not bring A-Rod back. Stay tuned for more details as they come available
Maxman
Loretta is 36 and in no way is close to a replacement for Cano. If they sign him maybe he is going to be a middle reliever.

He played a lot of 1B with Houston last year and can play the remaining IF positions as well. Nice utility guy but naturally it will fuel Cano for Johan talk. Barton
Maybe Betemit is going to Minnesota, who needs a 3rd baseman.
JetsMan57
Maybe loretta plays first base?
Scott Dierking
Loretta is an insurance policy at 3rd base. That's all.
AFJF
Yep...Loretta is a good guy to have on the roster. Can play all over the field and is a solid vet. Nothing spectacular but not a bad guy to have around.

MasonJet
I think I agree with everyone else here. He's a solid vet who can probably play all over the infield. I doubt the Yankees would get Loretta to replace a top-notch player like Cano. I honestly can't see him being traded and I will be very pissed if I'm wrong.
