JetNation
With the draft quickly approaching the NFLPA announced a series of events that will be held for the rookies and their families. Here is the official statement, which was posted on www.nfllockout.com. The 2011 NFLPA Rookie Debut kicks off Thursday, April 28. Activities for the three-day event will not conflict with the evening broadcasts of the NFL Draft on April 28-29. The 2011 NFLPA Rookie Debut and “One Team” Celebration is designed to welcome incoming rookies and their families to the NFLPA family, and enable relationships to form between current and former players, NFLPA and NFLPI staff and select corporate partners. The entire weekend is a celebration of legacy—of past, present and future pro football players making the journey from prospect to professional. Players will have the opportunity to learn about life in the NFL from their colleagues and prospective teammates, along with valuable insight from the Professional Football Players Mothers and Fathers Associations. Along with a variety of public events and media engagements, players will have the opportunity to participate in the NFLPA’s community outreach program called “Let Us Play,” which encourages players, parents, teachers and volunteers to help kids lead a more healthy and active lifestyle. The weekend culminates with Saturday evening’s main event in New York City, which brings together current players, former players and Hall of Famers to celebrate the game of pro football and welcome its newest members. Activities will include a variety of entertainment, interviews, performances and a host of player-fan interaction. Thursday, April 28, 2011 4:00: PM Private Reception Friday, April 29, 2011 9:30 AM: Public Appearances (Media, etc.) 11:00 AM: Lunch with Corporate Sponsors Afternoon Public Appearances (Media, etc) Late Afternoon: Afternoon Social Engagement Saturday, April 30, 2011 Morning: “Let Us Play” Fitness & Skills Clinic (Harlem, N.Y.) Afternoon: Player-Fan Connection/Engagement Activity – TBD 7:00 PM + : 2011 NFLPA Rookie Debut & “One Team” Celebration –Players, draftees, sponsors, VIPs and family members invited It is going to be very interesting to see how this plays out. I have a funny feeling some scheduling conflicts will come up that will limit the player’s availability during the draft. View the full article
Bleedin Green
One has to wonder if the players realize what complete children this makes them look like, purposefully booking this against the draft. When I read crap like this it actually gives more credence to some of the owners claims about the players. There is nothing remotely relevant to the current labor situation in this act, it's just the players throwing a tantrum. Don't get me wrong, both sides are nothing but complete assholes in this thing, and I'm not going to feel bad for any of the billionaires or millionaires. However, the players seem to be going out of their way to unnecessarily make themselves look bad.
T0mShane
Gotta admit, the thought of Goodell standing up at the podium by himself pick after pick, longingly, awkwardly looking around to see if there are any players coming up to shake his hand gives me a raging hard-on. You should go and give him a t-shirt. Mawae won't be there so you should be safe.
4HCrew
If the players do appear, I would not be surprised to see them wearing some type of association and or hat to show their unity
Sperm Edwards
II thought there was no NFLPA anymore. Gee, that's odd.

Garb
What a crock. I thought they (NFLPA) decertified? Now they are planning activities for incoming rookies that may not play because of a pissing match between a union that does not exist and the owners. I found this written statement: "A celebration of legacy" - to be very telling. DeMaurice Smith is on an ego trip, folks. Say what you want about the owners, it's mostly true. But do not be so blind to the fact that Smith is a slimey ambulance chaser with a public profile trying to forge his way into sports history. Jock sniffing can be dangerous. faba
It is all about the battle for support of the media and fans. any thing they can do to try to sway feelings they will do it -both sides.
Garb
He's winning, though. Not sure who "wins" here. I just know that it's the fans that are losing. Funny that both sides say they care about the fans....but you know the old addage: actions speak louder than words. Right now they are saying "we don't give a f**k about you." Anyway, I hear Smith used to be a Community Organizer. Actually, didn't he work on Ombama's transition team? Explains a lot.

I hear he's a financial genius.
Garb
Is Mitt Romney available to settle this whole thing? I hear he's a financial genius. Interesting thought. Although he may have better things to concentrate on....like understanding foreign policy, the domestic dump of an economy, filling out basketball brackets....unheard of, I know. Perhaps he could assign one of his sister wives to the task.
