Jets | Blaylock Ready to Earn Respect on Field

Thu, 22 Sep 2005 14:33:01 -0700

Dan Martin, of the New York Post, reports New York Jets RB Derrick Blaylock could see significant action in Week 3 with starting RB Curtis Martin (knee) nursing a knee injury. Blaylock, in his first year with the team, is ready to earn his teammates' trust as a capable backup. "You have to earn that trust," Blaylock said. "Hopefully I can earn it when I get on the field. I know my time will come. That's what this week is about." Quarterback Chad Pennington says he is already impressed with Blaylock. "I have a lot of confidence in Derrick," Pennington said. "He's the perfect guy to step in."

What a waste of money that Blaylock signing was. But he should have known.

How is a waste of money? He signed as a back up and was more then happy to take the money and the role on this team.

His job is to sit and wait and be ready to play....Like when curtis gets hurt...but herm won't sit Curtis even if it's in the best intrest of the team.

Blaylock got a very big deal for a backup running back -- 3 million dollar signing bonus!

He wont do sh** unless Curtis breaks a leg. It wont happen. When in doubt, Herm goes to Curtis, no matter what the circumstances in the game are. Herm must doubt alot, because its only Curtis who gets the carries.

From the NY POST

DERRICK UN-LOCKED

By DAN MARTIN

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

September 22, 2005 -- Derrick Blaylock stood on the sidelines as the Jets continued to run the ball in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Dolphins, and he watched Curtis Martin's number get called again and again.

And again.

"You always want to get more carries," Blaylock said. "I was kind of surprised, since we were running so much, that I didn't get the ball more often."

======================================

I give it to week 6 before his complaints get alittle lounder.

We dont even need an expensive backup when we have a more than capable 6th rd pick in Cedric Houston and a starting running back who will always get the carries.

Herm is a ****.

I can understand the love affair with Martin, but the man is 32, coming off the most carries in his career(370+), and has an injured knee.

You'd think he take it easy on the man, especially since he suffered his knee injury in the first quarter, but no, Herm has him carry the rock 31 times.

THIRTY ONE F'IN TIMES.

Does that make any sense? Why sign Blaylock, and draft Houston, if you have no intention of using them?

Historically, backs that carry the ball 340 plus tend to break down and few, if any duplicate their previous season. Look it up.

Dillon, Lewis and Martin are all off to slow starts, and Lewis had 380+ in 2003.

Jamal Anderson shredded his knee after a SuperBowl, Dirty Bird dancing 1998.

Ricky Willaims was run into the ground in 2002 and was not the same in 2003, after being run into the ground like a cheap mule.

Tomlinson is the exception. You'd think our dumbass head coach would take it easy, and lighten the load on his 32 yr old wounded warrior.

This is f'in unbelieveable. No way Blaylock gets the majority of snaps, unless Martin takes a serious step backward, and he was just upgraded to probable.

Just keep this in mind, when we face our entire division in December and new England in January. At this pace, there's no way he lasts.

Curtis averaged two plus yards a carry last week and Blaylock got two carries. Reminicent of the Raider game where Lamont had one carry for 56 yards and a TD and Martin was lugging away to the tune of 3 ypc.

BTW, we'll see how happy Blaylock is when he gets another 2 carries this weekend.

So you guys are telling me you'd rather have a completely healthy Derrick Blaylock then a nicked up Curtis Martin?#-o

And EB50, when in doubt, who else should Herm go too? BJ Askew. Any coach would go to Curtis over Blaylock.

If Curtis can't get more than 3 YPC in the first 7-8 carries of a game, then yes , they should give Blaylock the ball a few times to see what he can do.

YES!

Did you happen to see Martin run in the 2nd half last week? He was horrible. Same thing vs the Chiefs.

And you truely believe Derrick Blaylock would do any better? You make it sound like Jim Brown is back there backing up CM.

Then again I'm talking to the same people who think Jordan's running for 1500 and 10+ TDs in Oakland and that he is Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, Walter Payton all rolled into one.

Blaylock has speed and moves. Something Curtis has never had, and certainly doesnt have now with a bum knee.

We wont run the ball in the middle vs the jags.

We need an offtackle runner. And that is Blaylocks game.

Are you trying to say that Curtis should sit and Blaylock should start and get 25 carries?

No. Start Curtis. And if he sucks with a 2ypc mark or just looks like complete crap again in the 1st quarter, bench his a** and play Blaylock the rest of the game.

That is only fair to the team and to Derrick.

You guys are way too quick to pull the trigger. I could see if this goes on till Week 10, but now? Jeez. The guy only led the league in rushing last year and is one of the best backs ever and Week 3 we want to pull him cause he might average 2 ypc in the 1st quarter against one of the best, if not the best, Defensive Line in the NFL?

WHO CARES WHAT HE DID LAST YEAR AGO OR 5 YEARS AGO.

This is the 2005 season and ONLY the 2005 season.

I dont give a damn how much you get paid or how well-respected you are, if you are not helping the team at all and are dragging it down by playing with an injury, then you should be rested and shutdown until your healthy.

Blaylock is a better fit vs the jags defense than Curtis Martin is, especially a Curtis Martin with a bum knee.

If we wait till week 10 to play Blaylock over a sucky Curtis Martin, then our season would be over. Lets hope Curtis snaps out of it, but it wont be this week. He should get an early chance, and if he fails to do anything good, then bench his ass for the rest of the game. Plain and Simple.

EB50, I'm giving up with you because you are just like Savage, I don't need to say anymore.

Curtis Martin haters, I have no time for, the man has had 2 bad weeks, show me a RB who hasn't.

LOL. I'm not a curtis martin hater.

But I know a stud when I see one.....

and I know a dud when I see one....

And right now, Curtis Martin is a DUD.

The bottom line is he is not helping the team...

Now if he's being ineffective he should be

taken out. Obviously he wont be 100%

and its stupid to risk a bigger injury by

playing sunday when we have 2 backup

running backs who can fill in and the

offense would not skip a beat! Hell, with

the way Curtis has ran the past 2 weeks, our

offense might actually pickup a few beats

if we gave Blaylock or Houston some damn carries!

Idiot. By that logic, maybe we should give Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch 25 carries this Sunday. I think he's 80, but he's probably a step faster than Curtis right now.

No my answer is correct. He asked who cares what Curtis did 5 years ago. I answered it correctly.

A loophole maybe.

Gotta run the baseball forum awaits. THE YANKEES WIN.

Yea but Herm won't give him any carries either.

Mawae might actually be able to run over some defenders.

Dinger should invent a formation where the quarterback hikes the ball to the running back who then hands the ball off to the center. Its so crazy....it just might work.

Um, the Hall Of Fame does.

Screw winning football games. Yeah, let's have Mark Messier skate around outside the scrum at 44, Willie Mays with the Mets, Hank Aaron with the Brewers, Babe Ruth with the Braves, Namath with the Rams,Unitas with the Chargers. All of whom were old, hanging on and sucked-like Curtis Martin this year.

LAST YEAR MEANS NOTHING. This Sunday, based on Martin's injury, the stout Jags' DL and Blaylock's speed and moves, he should play, and play a lot.
