Green Jets & Ham
Okay, now let's assume the Jets and Saints lose this weekend but the Texans win ... and the Jets leap the Texans for the SOS tiebreaker In that case it would be the Saints #1 and the Jets #2 This trade, according to the draft trade value chart, would be far less costly {than trading from 3 to 1} 1. Jets {via Saints} - RB Reggie Bush 2. Saints {via Jets} - QB Matt Leinart ACCORDING TO THE CHART Jets and Saints swap 1st RD Picks Saints acquire Jets 2nd RD Pick Jets acquire Saints 4th RD Pick and the Saints are actually getting value slightly ABOVE what the chart dictates in this scenario WOULD YOU DO IT? stormshadow19
Once again... why would the Saints trade the pick for such a little return? If you think that they're not going to go all out for value, then you're kidding yourself. The first pick in this draft, for Reggie Bush, will garner a return of mammoth proportions. Much more than the number two overall pick, plus the second pick in the second round. If you believe otherwise, you're fooling yourself. Oh, and I don't make that trade either. The Saints probably want to draft leinart at #1 ... if you could inject their GM with truth syrum, he'd probably tell you he would want to draft leinart at #1 if a trade {where he could still land leinart} was impossible Therein lies the key ... a trade where he can still land leinart is NOT impossible if the Jets are sitting right behind them in the 2 Hole ... in that case he can still draft leinart {which is the key that no other trade down offers}, add another high 2nd RD Pick, and cough-up a 4 to close the deal AGAIN ... According to the chart, I actually have the Saints getting value ABOVE what the chart dicates in this trade, so I am not trying to steal one for the Jets ... this is not some homer proposal
stormshadow19
Mind you Ham, I never said it was a homer proposal. I mearly stated that there's no way in hell the Saints trade the pick for so little. They stand to make a killing on the deal, to make up for the Ricky Williams trade that Dikta did, all those years ago. And, if they trade down too far for Leinhert, they can still get Cutler. I just think we're talking THREE first round picks, an assortment of other round picks, and a few vet players. More than what the Jets can give up. SS, there is NO DOUBT they will get offers for more picks ... I never doubted that for a second ... but that doesn't mean they will view those trades as more desirable ... that depends on how much they like leinart? If they love Matt Leinart, which is entirely possible {and I always said he's a great fit for a dome team or a warm weather city}, then it's entirely possible the Saints place GREATER VALUE on Matt Leinart than the additional picks they can acquire if they trade down even further So while adding a high two seems like no big deal when they can easily trade down even further for more picks, it's a VERY BIG DEAL if they love ML

If the Saints love Matt Leinart they will not risk a big trade down. That, and the Jets would be very wise (in this scenario) to bluff and send out as many smokescreens as possible, that the Jets LOVE Matt Leinart. This way, the Saints will not know for sure, so they would not risk trading down past us, because for all they know, the Jets will take Leinart at #2, and the Saints would be stuck holding their di*ks in their hands. This would make us their only trade partner.

stormshadow19
While the Saints may value Leinhert more, due to name value, alot of people are placing Jay Cutler a cut above Matt. Either or, it doesn't matter to me. My point is that you have to make it worth the Saints while to trade down. Don't you think that other teams in the top five want Bush? Houston, San Fran, New York, Green Bay... they're not going to take Lenhert. And, who's to say the Saints just stay put and take Leinhert? And, someone agreeing with you doesn't make them wise beyond their years. It's short sighted to trade all this ammo. Why? The Jets need to reload, rebuild, and retool. Draft picks are valuable to this team that is almost 25 million over the cap, for next season.

Preston Howley III
Bradway has jerked around with the draft order 3 out of 5 times, and I just don't think that for what he gave up for what he got back, made it a good deal for the Jets. I say the Jets either stay put, or trade down. Reggie Bush could be the next Desmond Howard, for all we know. I just don't think the Jets are in any position to get cute. Actually, I like Lendale White, more.
Smizzy
and NO i wouldn't do it . Like Moses said...I don't trust this FO enough to make the right decision. Stay put or trade down. Yet somehow I feel if we trade down...we will get screwd out of our player anyway and then draft a punter or FB with the extra pick.

Yet somehow I feel if we trade down...we will get screwd out of our player anyway and then draft a punter or FB with the extra pick. Look, the only position that has a shot to be a starter if they draft one, is an OT. Herm and Terry rode the injury excuse all season, so basically what they told Woody is once Mawae, Martin, Pennington et al get back, they will have the sequel to THE YEAR OF NO EXCUSES. So going for an impact player doesn't really matter, because one, he won't play, and two, this team sucks so bad that even if he does play, it will make a negligible difference. This is why Woody has to cut Bradway and Herm now, because if you just drag them along one more year, they won't do whats best for the team in the future, because they know they won't be here. And even if they wanted to do right by the team instead of just playing CYA, they are too incompetant, anyway. Bradway will just keep drafting special teamers in rounds 2-7 and panic 1st rounders (based on some hairbrained experiment of Herm's or some such sht), and Herm will continue to play the core guys he inherited from Parcells. This is getting stupid.
