Go with Petty and Hackenberg next year.

the 18' draft is going to be loaded with top qbs.

The kids from USC and ucla, the kid from Washington, and probably even Jackson from Louisville will all be top 10 picks

Why can't the Jets wait on a decision like this until they see how Petty plays out the schedule?  He did some nice things, but also some not so nice things, on Sunday.  Imo he has not yet earned a roster spot next season, and as for Hackenberg. we haven't seen him at all in a real game.

Yes I concede Hack will most likely be on the squad next year.  But the notion that the Jets are set with these two seems silly to me based on available evidence.

So tell me what teams has actually done this pick a QB in first round every year and we know so many teams need an established QB- sorry that is not the way to try to go

Well, we could sure continue to suck and take average safeties and CBs then.

I have no idea about college football players, BUT, we have got to shore up this secondary. Burris played really well, which means we need to find someone to take over Revis side (Maybe Gilmore?).

Looks like Gilchrist is done, so Martin & Middleton (find 1 out of those 2 and your set and draft other positions) they have 3 games to prove themselves.

If a stud CB is there it's so hard not to take him, but like everyone else has said, 1st round has to be BPA @ CB, Edge rusher, Offensive Tackle! One of those 3. And picking at 5 or 6, I believe one will be there because even though the draftnicks say there's no QB in this draft worth a #1 someone will move up and one will be taken before we pick pushing down another player to us.

There's always a 'but' for Jets fans.

As the 2016 season spirals out of control, the Jets are putting themselves in position to have one of the top picks in the 2017 NFL Draft--but there's a problem with the upcoming class of draftees: No true franchise quarterback seems to be present.

That comes from the mind of ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper.

During a conference call on Thursday to discuss the 2017 NFL Draft, Kiper was down on the idea of this class having any sure-fire top 10-caliber quarterback picks.

Among the best quarterbacks available, Kiper likes North Carolina's Mitch Trubisky. The problem? With only 13 career starts under his belt--less than Mark Sanchez had coming out of USC--Kiper believes Trubisky would be better served heading back to school before playing his way into No. 1 overall pick status in 2018. As for the other highly-touted throwers?

Kiper was critical of Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer after playing in an offense that may not have been suited for him, thinks Clemson's Deshaun Watson needs to play well in the College Football Playoff to put himself back in the conversation of the first round and suggested that Miami's Brad Kaaya go back to school for another year.

Where are Jets picking?

So, what should the Jets do?

"Do you just stretch it for a quarterback? After taking Sanchez (with limited number of college starts), they shouldn't," Kiper said. "When you draft Christian Hackenberg, you don't come back and take a quarterback unless he's spectacular. Offensive line? Too early. Wide receiver? Too early. Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster is my guy. I've been talking him up all fall. That would allow you do different things with Darron Lee. Foster is one of my favorite players. He's spectacular. That's where I would go if I was the Jets inside the top 10."

Foster recently received the Dick Butkus Award, presented annually to the best linebacker in the country.

The SEC star led the Crimson Tide in tackles, including 12 tackles for loss and four sacks during an undefeated regular season.

MY evaluation of the QBS this year. Trubisky is what he says but he doesn't make bad decisions. So much more to evaluate but he has the size but I agree he should stay in college. In fact 90% of juniors who are QB's should come back for their senior year. Same as Kizer and Watson. The one I like a lot but is also a junior but has played over two full years is Mason Rudolph. He is a way better version of Hackenberg. He is the same size and has the arm but what he does have is the toughness and grit to make a play by breaking a tackle a la Roethlisberger. I like him. He is my number 1 QB.  Now if you looking for a senior than the two best is Davis Webb out of California who took Goffs place. Again only one year. Need to see more and at combine. The other is real interesting and that is Chad Kelly. We all know his uncle is Jim Kelly and he is tough just like Jim. He s only 6:2 but I love his passion. If you are a College Football Buff like myself you know as soon as he got injured his team fell apart. With him they almost beat Alabama.
