Arizona Cardinals 2019 Blueprint

Recommended Posts

The Cardinals seems to finally be heading in the right direction. They just beat the woeful Giants at MetLife winning their 3rd game in a row for the first time since 2015. The Cardinals GM, Steve Keim, made some bold moves last off-season firing his first year head coach (Steve Wilks) and then trading away his "franchise" quarterback (Josh Rosen) he selected with the 10th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Cardinals set a precedent trading away their 1st round quarterback after only 1 season. You know where I'm headed with this. If the Jets end up with the 1st pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, does Joe Douglas pull a Keim and fire Adam Gase, trade Darnold, and draft Tua Tagovailoa? Joe Douglass didn't even hire Adam Gase or draft Sam Darnold. Those are Mike Maccagnan and Christopher Johnson choices - thanks Peyton! Fast forward to the 2020 NFL Draft. The Jets end up with the top pick in the 2020 draft after getting swept by the Ryan Fitzpatrick led Dolphins. Do you think Douglass would be so bold to hire his own coach, trade Darnold, and draft Tua Tagovailoa?

Darnold is better than Tua IMO.

Changing the coach after 1 year is a different question.  I'm not sure that Johnson has the balls to do that, even if it's the right thing to do.  There's no doubt Gase will last this entire season.  Next offseason is a bigger question.

Here's the most interesting thing to me....  Joe Douglas is the new GM.  By all accounts, he's strong from a scouting and player evaluation standpoint, and he seems to specialize in understanding offensive linemen.  The question is what did Joe Douglas see last night with the Jets offense and what does HE think fixes it?  Being more specific, was the problem the personnel or the coaching? It could easily be both to varying degrees, but the Jets did not seem prepared to handle Patriot blitzes.  The Pats did their homework and saw what had worked so far this year against the Jets OLine and combined their pressure with hard-to-diagnose coverages for Darnold.

When you're confused by the coverage it doesn't help that you have less than 1.5 seconds to make a decision while down by 17 points.

I think there will be some "fall guys" here....possibly Frank Pollack and then several OLinemen in the offseason obviously.

True, but Gase hired Douglas
