Sports Owners, Players, Media and TV networks, Advertisers, Cities.....all make 'business decisions'....

Recommended Posts

The only ones NOT expected to make business decisions are fans.   The ones that make EVERYTHING possible for the other entities are expected to shut up, pay for tickets, pay for merchandise, have to sit and take in tons of commercials becasue you are a fan and expected to 'support' your team through thick and thin.

The Panthers just raised their season ticket prices.  Their owner is a buffoon who has blown it many times in a few years, they totally blew the QB pick last year and now watch another team get a QB prospect vastly better than the guy they took.  And your reward?   Higher prices, oh of course the team has 101 valid reasons why.

The amount that the average fan is treated with sheer and utter disdain by sports teams, leagues, owners, media and players is a joke.

And the moment a fan base has had enough and attendance dips?  Well you just move the team or threaten to move it and blame it all on the terrible fans that do not support the team.

(tm, another useless Beerfish get off my lawn rant.)

They’ll charge you as much as you’ll pay. And people keep paying. I once listened to an economics podcast, and this is me showing off.

Yes, they will.  How much did you pay for "No Ads"?

Owners care about TV money.

Media cares about clicks.

Look what happened to Cam Newton.  Why should players care about us?

Fans are a somewhat necessary evil.

It’s our fault he quit in the Super Bowl and then decided to start dressing like Mrs Doubtfire?

No, that is probably CTE.  The hosting an event and having some loser come up and attack him.

Note:  YOU control the demand curve, or at least your own personal participation in that curve.

Any implication that we consumers are powerless is dumb.  We hold the power, and we can always choose to demand, or not demand, any product.  Including Jets football or the NFL as a whole.

But if you choose to keep on demanding, please, stop bitching like you're not demanding it.  Sports is a product, just like any other product.

I think the problem, in that regard, is the nfl and teams are pretty much fully paid for by the advertisers and tv contracts.  I don’t think they need many fans filling the seats to make a profit.  And in this region, even the worst team on the worst day will draw more fans than a soccer game or wnba game.  And maybe even a Major League Baseball game depending on how sucky the Mets or yanks are at the time.
