Our WR2 is on PUP with no actual estimate of when he might even be able to start non-contact practices

so what are you willing to part to get SF to make the trade?

and what type of contract are you willing to give him.   Do we have the room?

I'm not losing sleep over this but if McDonald came back unprepared for the role this year and Clemons is the best option for starter, I sure hope there is an alternate strategy to shore up that spot in Huff's absence.

Same goes for Williams if he's not approaching readiness for week 1. I'm not a Gipson hater but I am skeptical that he's ready to be WR2 (or WR3 if Lazard is WR2) to start the season.

McDonald will never be a "starter" because every possession starts with First Down. It's meaningless. They didn't draft a 3 down player, they drafted a pass rush specialist. The drated a Bryce Huff, not a Hassan Reddick. This is ok. McDonald is a starter on the pass rush D.

I'd be ok if he becomes a part-time player like Robert Mathis

The Jets are constructed to pay with a lead, from in front. Early in games, McD will play pass rush downs. As soon as we get a lead, Saleh will be able to play him more, even on non-passing downs. As soon as a team is forced to abandon the run to any degree, McD will come in fresh and be "A Closer" if you like baseball references. I don't think the Jets expected JJ to become Hassan Reddick 2.0 when they drafted McDonald.

That’s interesting on one hand you say you aren’t the gm but in the next sentence you are kind of playing gm.

I am curious who could we have gotten that fits in our salary cap.

Ugh, so what, I tell you what I’d have preferred and then you argue with a hypothetical outcome.

In the draft I wanted a first round WR  and would have done whatever was necessary to add one. We got an insurance policy for Tyron Smith (who I also wouldn’t have targeted).

Think about it: the big solution to backup QB, #2 WR and OT were:

- damaged Mike Williams

- damage-inbound Tyron Smith

- oft-damaged Tyrod Taylor

Tyron contract forces us to have to use. 1st on OT anyway. Very good WRs moved around the league this off-season. Our GM backed himself into a corner and really didn’t solve the problems we were facing the best he could. Broken parts don’t solve problems.

You want to argue with me for being critical? I mean, come on…

You can’t be serious with this?

MW was arguably the best FA WR out there. And will by all reports be very likely to go week 1. So not sure what your deal is there. Breece had the same injury around the same time and was at practice on 8/16 last year. If MW isn’t practicing in 2 weeks. That’s when I’d say his rehab might leak into the season. But I don’t think that’s will happen. He’s also a WR that doesn’t use his quickness. So him maybe being rusty or not 100% with his knee. Doesn’t affect him As much being a big bodied WR. His game is winning jump balls.

You also conveniently totally left out that we drafted Corley. Like he likely won’t be WR3 for us at some point this season.

And Lazard I was down on too. But how about being excited that he’s having a great camp. That clearly having trash at QB is what made him useless last year. Ya I’m not excited that he mailed it in when AR went down. But fact is, is that AR is healthy and starting. So Lazard is playing well. If healthy he’s a great WR3 or 4.

Yes, I conveniently left that out. Or I simply think it was a substandard move to improve #2 WR. Right now, Lazard has that job.

Where do you guys come up with this doodie?

You act like MW isn't coming back and that the staff isn't saying he will be ready. As I said you conveniently just skip over that. You're acting like we don't have a #2 WR in MW.

Did you think we didn't have a starting RB last year at this time with Breece? And he had a great year with no QB and the worst OL.

And in what world are you just totally ignoring that we drafted a WR in Round 3 that was by most considered a 2nd rounder. AGAIN. Leaving that out.

I’m not acting like anything.

Im saying that signing an older WR coming off that kind of injury to address the absence of having any decent WRs after Garrett is negligent.

I like Williams. I just think the GM had the best strategy and/or execution. I’d bet if you gave him 5-6 High Noons he’d admit the same.

NFL is a WR league just as much as it’s a qb league.  GW is great but we have no depth if by far our second best WR might not be able to play in a game until Mid-October

No arguments.

I can see the WR idea as very reasonable.

not worries about qb2

but your point overall is valid. Thanks for answering.

Mcdonald not being able to get past Clemons in the depth chart whos a absolute cone of a player is amazing

Shaping up to be a waste of a high pick :( More and more it seems like JD wasn't ready for the way the board fell....geesh!

Some of you just panic and exaggerate. As I said the staff keeps saying MW is close to what Breece Hall's timeline was last year. Breece didn't practice last year until 8/16. And he started Week 1. And he needs his knee a lot more than MW does for his game.
