Hire an Offensive Consultant

I know Hackett is Rodgers guy and not going anywhere but they need to upgrade the room. The offense needs a grownup in the room that can take over play calling duties if necessary. Who's out there?

  • Frank Reich
  • Jon Gruden
  • Todd Haley

Rumor had it the Jets were looking to do this in the offseason but didn't pull the trigger for whatever reason.

This is the right idea. Take away play calling duty from Hackett. Basically demote him to Aaron Rodgers’s emotional support pet, make Downing the playcaller, fire Carter. Bring in Reich as a consultant and some assistant he trusts to work with OL.

If Ulbrich is given any control over this and this is audition to be HC, he has to make some bold moves to fix the offense.

iirc the "for whatever reason" is this mystery person didn't want to join the Jets, whether that's because the GM + HC were in lame duck seasons, or low opinions of Saleh himself, Douglas himself, Hackett, Rodgers, Rodgers + Hackett, or CJ Mosley.

They need a second set of eyes if only to keep Hackett honest.  Reich is good. He’s probably angling for a head job next season so maybe he wouldn’t mind a short term gig.

Might be seen as a pretty appealing spot for someone looking to do that. Wildly under performing offense w/HOF QB and some weapons. If he turns it around his stock is up. If he fails, the HOF QB was just washed.
