Indoor football: Blizzard QB Ryan Hawk plans to make it on his own

By Scott Venci

You wouldn't know by looking at Green Bay Blizzard quarterback Ryan Hawk that he's the brother of a certain star linebacker for the Green Bay Packers.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder has short, neatly trimmed brown hair. He doesn't have a hint of the wavy, long locks of brother A.J., the 246-pound linebacker the Packers selected in the first round of last year's NFL draft.

The brothers' different appearances are appropriate, though, because Ryan isn't looking to live off his younger brother's name in this football-crazy town.

The first time Hawk talked with new Blizzard coach Doug Lytle on the phone, there was no mention of his brother.

It only was during that one-hour conversation, while someone in the team's front office was doing research on Hawk, that it was discovered he was related to A.J.

"He has done a great job," Lytle said of Ryan, who's battling to be the team's starter when the season opens at Fort Wayne on March 31. "Ryan is a consummate professional. He does everything right. He practices right. He takes care of his body. He is a great teammate.

"It's a total football family when it comes down to it."

At least the guy is playing somewhere.. The Manning's oldest brother is some real estate or business person. Who knows if he's really successful or just succesful cause his brothers and father are famous and wealthy.

It would be far worse if you were some 30 year old working minimum wage jobs now and again or in and out of jail for stupid things while your brother was a star to be NFL player.
