According to the current issue of Baseball America, outfielder Fernando Martinez, who missed most of last season due to a right-hand injury, is the No.1 prospect in the Mets farm system. Martinez, who celebrated his 19th birthday earlier this month, was the youngest player Double A when last season opened.

The magazine lists right-handed pitcher Deolis Guerra as the organization's next best prospect. Guerra, 18, went 2-6 with a 4.01 ERA in 21 games for Class A St. Lucie last season.

Outfielder Carlos Gomez, who showed flashed during the considerable time he spent in the majors last season, is seen as the organization's third best prospect while right-handed pitcher Kevin Mulvey was listed fourth and right-handed pitcher Eddie Kunz, the team's top draft pick last summer out of Oregon State, was ranked fifth.

Gomez who missed two months with a broken hamate bone in between stints with the Mets, batted .286 for New Orleans and .232 in 58 games for the Mets.

Mulvey, the team's top pick in 2006 out of Villanova and Bishop Ahr High School in Edison, was 11-10 with a 3.32 ERA in 26 starts for Binghamton. He also went 1-0 in his lone start for Triple-A New Orleans, pitching six shutout innings while allowing two hits.

Kunz, who signed late after finishing his college career with a second consecutive NCAA championship at Oregon State where he was the Beavers closer, was 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 12 games for Brooklyn.

The rest of Baseball America's top 10 Mets prospects follows:

6) RHP Brant Rustich (3-0 at Kingsport/Brooklyn)

7) RHP Philip Humber (11-9 at New Orleans)

8) LHP Jon Niese (11-7 at St. Lucie)

9) LHP Nathan Vineyard (0-3 with Gulf Coast)

10) RHP Robert Parnell (8-8 at St. Lucie/Binghamton)
