faba
They just need to take the top 8 teams and let them duke it out. You will then have teams excluded from the top 8 complain=you will never win.

Alk
You will then have teams excluded from the top 8 complain=you will never win. There is always going to be a team that complains and may very well have a valid argument but having an 8 team playoff is clearly better than this trainwreck that they have right now. Mavrik
Almost every sport in the United States, big or small, has some sort of playoff system. It's about time College Football got the memo.
124
You take the Top 10 or 16 teams and you have a playoff system. Top 10: #1 & #2 get first round bye's. Top 16: Nobody gets a bye, just start playing. Have all your crappy Pampers Diet Coke Bowls on Tuesdays and Thursdays and let the real teams play on Saturday afternoon and night. The season will end earlier than the first week in January.

Lil Bit Special
There are 119 teams in Div 1 FBS. You have a tournament for all the teams with winning records. Accoring to my research there are 56 D1 FBS teams with winning records (i didnt adjust for losses in conf. championship). So you hold a tourney like the NCAA basketball tourney. It would take 6 weeks to run the tourney week 1- 56 teams to 32 teams week 2- 32 to 16 teams week 3- 16 teams to 8 teams week 4- 8 teams to 4 week 5- 4 teams to 2 week 6- championship eliminate all conference championships and require all teams to play equal amount of games. eliminate all bye weeks and games against Div 1-AA (FCS). This year the schedule started the weekend of Sept 1. So 12 weeks later would be Nov. 17th with the playoffs starting weekend of Nov 24th. You run 3 weeks (Nov 24, Dec 1, Dec 8) You would then take 2 weeks off for finals (like they are student athletes.. hah!) and restart Dec 22. and the playoffs would be over Jan. 5th. If there arent 64 teams with winning records to fill out the brackets, those high seeds get a bye week 1. Sure we would get some blowouts and crazy games. But we would give each school that had a good season a chance to compete.

vanDoug
They just need to take the top 8 teams and let them duke it out. Duke's good at basketball, but football? Forgetaboutit.
124
that would be like march madness, just a 8 team playoff system would suffice How would that be like March Madness? There are no Bye Week's in March Madness. They should do an 8 or 10 team playoff. As for the 6 BCS conferences + 2 at large bids, Hawaii would have to be one of the at large bids since they were 12-0 and we saw what Boise State did last season. Mizzou would be out. Georgia's a better team.
