According to sources close to the situation, the Yankees' top pitching prospect has been promoted to High A Tampa. On Thursday, July 7th, Phil Hughes will make his debut in the High A Florida State League with the Tampa Yankees. Coming straight off the disabled list after recovering from some mild shoulder tendonitis, Hughes will not return to Low A Charleston, where he began his 2005 campaign. After simply dominating the South Atlantic League while with the Charleston RiverDogs, Hughes was shut down for a weeks with a mild shoulder condition. And, after rehabbing at the Himes Complex in Tampa, the tall righthander is ready for action once again. Phil will, without a doubt, be one of the youngest players in all of the Florida State League. With Charleston, Hughes was lights out, going 7-1 with a 1.97 ERA in 68.2 innings pitched while striking out 72 and walking only 16. So, despite the mild injury, the 19 year old righthander is more than deserving of this promotion. Success at yet another level for the Yankees' 2004 1st round selection will only further cement him as one of the elite pitching prospects in all of minor league baseball. When he takes the mound on Thursday, Hughes will be limited to 3 innings of work, according to our source. This will help him to regain his stamina and they will continue to elevate his pitch count back to where it was when he was with Charleston. I saw a clip of him throwing in the bullpen area infront of mel. Something just didn't look right. He looked stiff and tense. We cannot lose another pitcher.
