faba
By DAVID GERMAIN, AP Movie Writer 1 hour, 32 minutes ago LOS ANGELES - Willy Wonka gave movie-goers their sugar fix for the weekend. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," starring Johnny Depp as candyman Wonka, had a sweet debut of $55.4 million, helping Hollywood make a dent in a box-office downturn that has lingered most of the year. Opening as a solid No. 2 was Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's comedy "Wedding Crashers," which took in $32.2 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. The two new movies bumped the previous weekend's No. 1 flick, "Fantastic Four," which slipped to third place with $22.7 million, lifting its 10-day total to $100.1 million. Make that 54 million worth of dorks -not too bad a take

Alk
I wanted to go see it the other night but Grant picked Fantastic Four instead. Hopefully this coming weekend we'll get a babysitter and go catch Wedding Crashers. With Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn together, you can't lose. It was a double-feature with Herbie the Love Bug. I think this is where my claustrophobia originated.

It's call Corpse Bride. It's an animation that looks almost exactly like Nightmare Before Christmas. It might have one of the same characters in it but I couldn't tell for sure. Johnny Depp does one of the voices if you can imagine that.
JetFanByMarriage
My daughter just asked me to watch this with her tonight. I am probably going to take the kids sometime this week to see the new one! I had not heard the revues yet so I am glad it is good!

I think it will be pretty good if it is anything like Nightmare Before Christmas. When I went to see Fantastic 4 there was a preview for it and I liked the look of it. Have to wait until September 23.

Not so much the BOMB that the Critics thought it was. Especially when they really never research the source! $100.1 million in 10 days, Can you say - Sequel? I thought that you could! BaumerJet
Baumer, Who do you think will be the villain? I know it could be Doom, but I heard someone mention Galactus From what I've heard in the rumor mill, it has to do with the line "That's impossible - The storm is arriving 6 hours early!" Guess who more than likely brought it - two words - SILVER SURFER! That & the fact that 20th gave the clue on their FF movie fan site with the new wallpaper: And don't be so surprised that Doom makes an appearance at the end of this one as well. After all, Hauptmann shipped him off to Latvernia. All he would need is a little "POWER COSMIC" to reanimate him! MAKE MINE MARVEL!
Jetheelz
Interesting insight. Thanks for the pic there....however there is supposedly a Silver Surfer movie in the works too. Not sure on the validity of the news about it but if so would SS really be in the next F4 flick?

It wasn't great as compared to the X Men and Spidermen of the world but it was entertaining and actually had alot of funny parts in it. Michael Chiklis was perfect as The Thing. sirlancemehlot
I don't go to the movies much anymore. Most movies suck, and I can give you the ending and the plot twists long before they even happen. But I did see Charlie and the Choc. factory tonight, mainly because i'm a big fan of the original writer of the book, Roald Dahl. The film was well done and far truer to the original book, but lacked the twisted sexual innuendo, references to alcoholism, child abuse, and political import of the first. Dahl was a major headcase. He lost his wife, father, sister and one of his children--all through horrible accidents as I remember. He was also a prolific children's writer, as well as a writer of pornographic short-stories. Just a little background on the origins of the script. And anyway, I dug the movie--it was a pleasant surprise to someone who went into the theater somewhat sceptical. It wasn't great as compared to the X Men and Spidermen of the world but it was entertaining and actually had alot of funny parts in it. Michael Chiklis was perfect as The Thing. Not in the beginning. Norin Radd lost his humanity when he became the herald of Galactus in order to save his home planet Zenn-La & his one true love Shalla-Bal from the planet devourer. It wasn't until durring the inital battle with the FF when he became injured. The Surfer was befriended by Alicia Masters. That one selfish act would restore his humanity! Restored to the point that he turned on his master & by aiding the FF, he would be trapped on earth for years, never able to find Shala-Bal. That was, until Galactus returned (almost 30 years later) - But that's another story...
