Aug 315:42PM ETEmail Print Comments By Rich CiminiLooking to fill the Calvin Pace void while waiting on Adalius Thomas, the New York Jets claimed former Seattle Seahawks DE Ricky Foley on waivers Tuesday. Foley, a former CFL star, was released Monday by the Seahawks.

Foley, 29, played for the British Columbia Lions last season and finished with 12 sacks. He was named the top Canandian in the CFL. The Jets have had an eye on Foley since April. In fact, they worked him out at the same time as the Seahawks.

This doesn't mean the Jets no longer are interested in Thomas. As Rex Ryan said Tuesday, "I think we're on the wait mode right now. Let's see how we get through this game and let's take a good look at our roster and evaluate there."

The Jets want to sign Thomas after Week 1, when his salary (presumably $855,000, the veterans' minimum) wouldn't be guaranteed.

Foley's agent, Paul Sheehy was excited by the news. This is what he tweeted: " ... claimed today by J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS. From on the fringe to Hard Knocks!"

The Jets had a roster opening because they waived QB Kevin O'Connell.
