CFL sacks leader Ricky Foley signed with the Seahawks.

BC Lions defensive end Ricky Foley, who is scheduled to become a CFL free agent on February 15, has agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL.

The 6'2, 245-pound native of Courtice, Ontario led the CFL in sacks last season with 12, also recording 51 defensive tackles for the Lions.

Foley, who was a standout on York University's football team, was selected fourth overall by the Lions in the first round of the 2006 CFL Draft.

The Jets gave him a workout last week. That's a tough break. The Jets are limited in the offseason moves they can make. This was a chance to add a low risk player at a low price. He might have been able to beef up the pass rush.

He's too small to play in a 3-4.

He may be a decent player but he would be lost in this system. Dude is smaller than John Abraham. No way he could play DE for us. He's even too small to play OLB in our defense.

Both Thomas and Pace are two inches taller and 20 lbs heavier than this kid.

I doubt he'd even make our final roster if we had signed him.

Jets Sign 9 To Future Contracts

February 14, 2010

Courtesy NY Jets PR Department

The New York Jets have signed the following players to Reserve/Future contracts: FS Brannon Condren, WR Britt Davis, FB Jason Davis, T Dan Gay, WR Marcus Henry, DT Matt Kroul, C Michael Parenton, LS Tanner Purdum and DT Ty Steinkuhler. The announcement was made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Condren (6′1″, 205/Troy/Fort Walton Beach, FL) was signed to the Jets practice squad on Dec. 24. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft (131st overall). Since then, he has spent time on the Rams and Dolphins active roster and was on the Bengals practice squad before he was released on Dec. 8. In 12 NFL games, he registered eight tackles.

Britt Davis (6′3″, 205/Northern Illinois/Melrose Park, IL) originally signed with the Jets as a rookie free agent on May 1, was waived on Sept. 5, then was signed to the Jets practice squad on Nov. 17. During the 2009 preseason, Davis had five receptions for 54 yards. He finished his NIU career fifth all-time with 146 receptions and totaled 1,676 receiving yards, 2,063 all-purpose yards and nine touchdowns.

Jason Davis (5′10″, 242/Illinois/St. Louis, MO) originally joined the Jets on Sept. 6 after being claimed off waivers from Chicago. He was released by the Jets on Sept. 8, and signed to the team

you know who we need? Andre Wadsworth....I don't think you guys were here at JN when Max broke that story

:rl:

It was a JN exclusive. Randy Lange who wasn't working for the Jets yet (he was at the Bergen Record) told me he didn't know the Jets even worked him out.

If he made it, we coulda been a contender!

and the forever hopelessly hopeful Jets fans we are were really rooting for him to make it

Your senario sounds spot on Kleck. I'm laughing now that the Bills are going to a 3/4. Their D will be crap for years till they get the right sized people in there.

From PFT:

Seahawks sign CFL sack leader

Posted by Michael David Smith on February 14, 2010 8:19 AM ET

We noted early this month that Rick Foley, who led the Canadian Football League in sacks last season, was drawing interest from multiple NFL teams.

Now Foley has signed with the Seattle Seahawks, turning down offers from the Rams and Eagles.

Foley told the Canadian newspaper The Province that he's excited to play for new Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, and he thinks he's a good fit in the Seahawks' defense defence.

"New team, new coach, new defence and new position in their defence," Foley said. "Nobody has an advantage going into camp."

Foley was signed by the Baltimore Ravens in 2006 but never got into a game. He says he's a much better player now than he was then, and based on the evidence from the CFL, he may be right: Last year he was named the best defensive player in the CFL as a British Columbia Lions defensive end.

"The last time I tried I didn't know how to study or even read a playbook," Foley said. "I was naive. I'm a better player now and a lot more professional."

No mention of the Jets making an offer, so I guess it's really not even like missing out. Good luck to him in that other conference.

Oh no. Maybe he could've become a star like that guy Miami signed last year who was a CFL sack king. He was so awesome with the Dolphins last year. Yeah.

I heard from a fella on TJB who actually lives in Canada and follows the CFL, that Cameron Wake is a much better player than Foley, and that Foley wasn't the best "player" in the CFL, just the best Canadian player in the CFL.

At his size we'd be looking at him for ILB depth and ST.

The way I see it, we just lost out on a ST player... We'll survive.

Wake is better and played very, very well for Miami this season. Can't say Foley wouldn't have been good as a specialist, but he's past the point of being able to bulk up his frame any further. Good fit for Seattle though.

I still think Henry can be coached up to be a solid possession receiver by the way. People have really forgotten just how good he was at Kansas and he has the ideal size you're looking for in this type of offense. Definitely hope he can get his act together the next year or two because the natural ability was pretty obvious IMO.

Henry's already spent two years on the practice squad, he has to be closing in on his last chance. I have a little more hope for Britt Davis at this point.

I'm hoping Aundrae Allison heals up from the knee he suffered last pre-season. Now he at least is a proven NFL-caliber player. We really could have used his return abilities after Leon went down.

People, these guys are in the CFL and not the NFL for a reason.

And he only had twelve sacks up there, apparently.

I'm sure there are players up there who can help an NFL team under the right circumstances, but it's not like getting the Canadian League's best player is like winning the lottery. The Canadian League players get about one tenth of what NFL players get. In fact, just about every NFL team has the pick of the CFL-the last I looked the players up there had contracts which allowed them to leave the team "if they can advance their career elsewhere", or something similar.

I remember him. Mangini brought him in a couple of years back. Didn't make the cut though, I think he went back to selling cars. I heard he owns a dealership.

There is a reason why Foley probably signed with Seahawks. Number 1, their roster is not as talented as the Jets and number 2, it is only 2 hours from where he is currently playing which will make the fall softer on his family when he gets cut and has to get his old job back. To count on a CFL guy for anything other than a special teamer is a little presumptious.

Elvis Dumervil laughs at this post. But I agee, whatever.
