The highlights:

# 1 overall pick: UCLA right-hander Gerrit Cole went to the Pirates. He was a former Yankee 1st round draft pick in 2008 out of High School but opted to go to school. Throws in the mid-90's and has a hard slider.

Rounding out the top 5: UVA lefty Danny Hultzen to Seattle, another UCLA righty Trevor Bauer to AZ, HS righty Dylan Bundy from Oklahoma to the O's and HS outfielder Bubba Starling to the Royals.

Yankees: Their first pick came at # 51 overall, and they selected Dante Bichette's son, Dante Bichette Jr.

Mets: Surprisingly took a pair of High Schoolers at # 13 and 44 in OF Brandon Nimmo and RHP Michael Fulmer. For years their philosophy has been to go with proven college players. I attribute this to the change at GM and a down year of college talent.

Mets prior philosophy was to play it safe and draft players with low ceilings, and signability.

They chose to get with players with greater upside. Let's see how it turns out in around 5 years.

In case you're wondering the Cubs did really well. Hopefully they sign 14th round pick (first round talent) Dillon Maples. Who doesn't like the name Dillon/Dylan? Everyone, but apparently this one is talented and just might be able to signed away from UNC. There's been 5-6 Dylon/Dillons in the past two years with first round talent...all are hard throwing RH HS pitchers...they'll probably use their signing bonuses to fund the lives of male kids named Taylor.
