Myth: Tebow needs a spread option offense.......Fact: He does best in a wide open passing spread offense

Hello everyone. Nice board you have over here.I have observed many across the nation say that "Tebow needed the Broncos to make an offense specially for him". Many say he cannot do well in a non-conservative offense with no spread option. But this is simply not true. When it comes to Tebow many people just forget everything for some reason.

Tebow's rookie season is what I like to point to. In his rookie season he started 3 games total (remember he had McDaniel's system in place). McDaniel's runs a wide open spread passing attack with no option in it. It is an aggressive offense that throws it out a ton including throwing it deep.

So if Tebow were not able to play well in a more standard NFL offense like McDaniels, it would have shown in his rookie season. But what did Tebow do in his 3 starts as a rookie? (keep in mind he had no training camp reps as a starter)

Tebow did better as a rookie in McDaniel's pass happy spread offense (with no option) than he did last season in the conservative option offense.

McDaniel's had faith that Tebow could run his offense well, and his rookie starts were very promising. He fit very well into the offense.

In his 3 rookie starts Tebow produced:

*2.3 TDs per game (7 TDs in the 3 starts)

*Led the offense to 25 PPG average during his 3 starts

*Averaged a total of 300 rushing/passing yards a game

*Averaged 27 pass attempts per game

*Topped the 300 passing yard once

*Topped the 200 yard passing mark once

*Averaged 217 passing yards per game

*Averaged 8 YPA

*82 QB rating

Also this season most of Tebow's success came in no huddle hurry up situations where they had to ditch the option and employ 4-5 wide shotgun spread formations and go on pass happy 2 minute drill drives (end of games, end of halves). The option seemed to waste the first 3 quarters and ONLY when they were forced to pass with a legit NFL offense did Tebow and the offense have success. I mean it is hard to make progress when you are only passing like 4 times in the entire first half. No wonder they were forced to try and win games in the 4th quarter. Even Tebow's running ability is enhanced in an spread offense with shotgun 4-5 WRs. The option is not needed and in fact hinders Tebow in the NFL.

teams also play different defense late in the fourth, they play not to lose, and stop beign aggressive.. Our crapball QB has also had a lot fo success against this type of thing.. I've watched quite a few games, and Tebow is not an NFL passer

welcome to the board though!

It maybe small, but think about it. Nearly every shot Tebow had to run a wide open offense, he did well (his 3 rookie starts, and the times this season when they were forced to go to a wide open offense like at the end of games). This year's Denver offense was very frustrating because it had Tebow pass the ball almost entirely in obvious passing situations (run on 1st, run on 2nd, pass on 3rd and long against a blitz).

Well, it's a good thing that Tony Sparano is an aficionado of pass-happy spread offenses.
