JetNation
The Jets have made a decision on who will be kicking the ball for the green and white this season. Incumbent Nick Folk has apparently won the training camp competition over veteran Josh Brown as he was released by the team today: Confirmed that Josh Brown was cut. He missed a 45-yard FG last night. Competition was very close. #nyj — Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) August 27, 2012 Folk went 19-of-25 in field goal attempts last season, a 76% average, which placed him 26th out of 31 kickers. The Jets brought in Brown to challenge Folk but he responded with a good camp and preseason. The competition was often too close to call but Folk went 3/3 in field goal attempts during the preseason match up with the Carolina Panthers while Brown was 1/2 missing a 45 yarder. Brown made a field goal against the Giants that hit in off the upright, so it seemed like Folk was already slightly ahead before last night’s game. Obrien2Toon
Was hoping for Brown, for kickoffs alone. Folk makes me nervous in pressure situations too.
Maxman
Was hoping for Brown, for kickoffs alone. Folk makes me nervous in pressure situations too. All kickers make me nervous. I thought Folk had this one all along.
SayNoToDMC
I hope he's ready. No gimmes this season since we've eliminated the Extra Point plus if the defense trips and falls into a TD we've got our Red Zone specialty QB going for 2. This ****ing team and Tanny are so far and away ahead of everyone else it's crazy
pointman
Brown is terrible. He couldn't kick the bucket if he was 100 years old.
Il Mostro
Color me crazy, but I love Folk's directional kicks on kick-offs.
courtnj18
Folk had this all along.... Although I still get nervous. He's def better kicking from afar rather than up close. Kudos Folk
Jetsfan80
Color me crazy, but I love Folk's directional kicks on kick-offs. Yes. This is where Folk has FAR more value than what we had in Jay Feely. With how important field position is for us, you need to have a kicker who can pin teams deep. faba
He has been all right for us - but it seems to tail off the end of the year with important kicks
