The NFL announced Tuesday that a third regular-season game will be added to the London schedule for the 2014 season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders will each play one home game at Wembley Stadium next year.

It's no coincidence that all three franchises are dissatisfied with their current stadium situations. The dates of the games and opponents for each club will be announced later this season.

Commissioner Roger Goodell pointed to the increased popularity of the International Series as the reason for the addition of a third game.

"Our fans in the UK have continued to demonstrate that they love football and want more," Goodell said. "Both of this year's games in London sold out quickly. The fan enthusiasm for our sport continues to grow. By playing two games in the UK this year, we are creating more fans. We hope that with three games in London next year we will attract even more people to our game."

The Minnesota Vikings' 34-27 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers drew a crowd of more than 83,000 to Wembley. More impressively, roughly 520,000 attended a football festival on London's famed Regent Street the day before the game.

As long as the United Kingdom continues to support the NFL experience, the league will welcome the opportunity to grow its brand.

The NFL's obsession with all things London has gotten beyond a joke.

people say that but it can't be more of a joke than having a team in Jacksonville, florida.

it's actually doable if the London team maintains a USA HQ in the northeast (boston or ny) and they play like 4 road games at once.

And how bad is it going to screw up every one's schedule who has to go there?

How bad is it to live/play in Jacksonville?

It depends on the team. San Diego probably can't play a road game there. But all the east coast teams could do it no prob. In terms of jetlag it's actually worse to fly west to east than east to west.  assume the teams don't stay long enough to really acclimate. these guys are road warriors they travel more in one season than most fans do in 10 years.

I don't know about playing there, but the Jacksonville area isn't bad at all to live in.

Don't see any purpose to have one team in Europe.  Next thing you know all the QB's will be wearing head bands

the purpose is money.  UK isn't quite Europe they still use the pound for example and it's a couple hours closer than Germany or whatever.

They should play in Tokyo. American football is actually really huge there. I was surprised to see shows dedicated to teaching football on tv...or hell I remember the Mexico City game was sick with Arizona vs 49rs i thnk. It was like the biggest crowd ever or something...

Why London for a third time? Why not give one to Munich? Football is way more popular in Deutschland than England

Absolutely. I remember the way NFL Europe went, and how well the London Monarchs did. They ended up dragging the team around the country trying to find people to actually watch them in the end. I think a few of their games had under 4,000 watching, while Frankfurt were still getting over 30,000 at league's end. So why does London keep getting all the games? After all, wasn't the whole idea of the International Series to bring the game worldwide? Hell, it doesn't even go UK-wide.

And as for the franchise in London? Players would be paying two sets of income tax, both US and UK, so what happens to the salary cap? Throw in how EU law frowns on things such as the draft and teams owning player's rights. It would be a disaster. But then what does Goodell care?
