flgreen
Green Day: Maybe Friday will be better October, 25, 2013 OCT 25 6:00 AM ET By Rich Cimini | ESPNNewYork.com FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Here's a prediction: The New York Jets will have a terrific practice Friday. They'd better, because Thursday wasn't good enough, according to Rex Ryan. Unsolicited, Ryan told reporters that Thursday's session wasn't as sharp as it needed to be, noting there were a few too many dropped passes for his liking. Receiver Jeremy Kerley took a step further, saying, "Practice was a little lackadaisical today." The 50 Greatest Jets Drawn from more than five decades of history, ESPN New York presents its 50 Greatest Jets. Top 50 Photo Gallery Rank 'Em And, yes, Ryan shared his feelings with the team. This could be a bit troubling. The Jets (4-3) are coming off a dramatic and emotional win over the New England Patriots, and they've been talking all week about the importance of maintaining consistency and stacking a few wins on top of each other. Remember, this is a team with only one two-game winning streak over the past 26 games, dating to late in the 2011 season. A subpar practice suggests a lack of focus. They won't beat the Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) if they carry that into Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday. Mind you, practices aren't open to the media. If Ryan reveals Friday another mediocre effort, it might be red-flag time. But something tells me it'll be a fabulously crip practice with every player dialed in. ICYMI: Owner Woody Johnson said some nice things about Ryan, but he wouldn't talk about the future. Ryan was happy to hear the nice things. ... Receiver Santonio Holmes, he of the severe hamstring injury, hinted that he may not return until Week 11. ... Defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman said he's not worried about Bengals practice-squad QB Greg McElroy, former Jet, sharing intel on his old team. Of course, what did you expect him to say? ... Special teams coach Ben Kotwica finally got a chance to say his piece on the PushGate controversy. ... Rookie left guard Brian Winters, coming off a two-sack game, has to block Bengals All-Pro defensive tackle Geno Atkins. Good luck, young man. JiFtheOracle
If the Jets come out flat, it's Rex's fault. He's not demanding enough as a players coach.
