Gil Brandt's top players left on the board to draft

The first three rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft are in the books, but that doesn't mean there aren't still impactful players left on the board. This is a very deep draft, and many of the players taken on Day 2 would have been Day 1 picks in other years. Here are the best players available, based on my original rankings (this list isn't a projection of where I think the players will be drafted, but rather my opinion of who the best remaining players are):

1. Tom Savage, QB, Pittsburgh
Hot 100 rank: 42
Savage (6-foot-3 7/8, 228 pounds) is a good leader and throws a lot like Troy Aikman. He has a very strong arm and will put it where the receiver can catch it. If he had played four years at one school, he might have been projected to go in the top half of the first round.

2. Cameron Fleming, OT, Stanford
Hot 100 rank: 49
Fleming (6-foot-4 7/8, 323 pounds) is a right tackle and a very good run blocker. He left school one year early, but started for three years. I think he will play this position for a lot of years. He needs to improve as a pass blocker, and I believe he will.

3. AJ McCarron, QB, Alabama
Hot 100 rank: 54
McCarron (6-foot-3 1/4, 220 pounds) led Alabama to two national championships and completed 67 percent of his passes over two years (2012-13) with 58 TDs and 10 interceptions. He's a very smart player with slightly above-average arm strength and ran a hand-timed 4.91-second 40.

4. Keith McGill, CB, Utah
Hot 100 rank: 58
In addition to his height, McGill (6-foot-3 1/8, 213 pounds) has long arms (33 inches) and big hands (10 inches). He had 37 tackles and 12 pass breakups in 2013 and played well at the Senior Bowl. One question for him is why he didn't have more interceptions at Utah (one in two seasons).

5. Carl Bradford, LB, Arizona State
Hot 100 rank: 60
Bradford (6-foot-1 1/8, 251 pounds) had 27 sacks in three years. He can play in space or rush the passer and play the run. His best position is strong-side linebacker. He ran a 4.72-second 40 at his pro day.

6. Cyril Richardson, OL, Baylor
Hot 100 rank: 61
Richardson (6-foot-4 1/4, 333 pounds) has 34 3/8-inch arms and put up 30 bench-press reps at his pro day. He didn't play as well in 2013 as he did the previous season and might have been too heavy at around 345 pounds. A four-year starter, he's a good run blocker and pass protector.

7. Dion Bailey, S, USC (63): 5-foot-11 5/8, 211 pounds, 4.68 40

8. Christian Jones, LB, Florida State (65): 6-foot-3 5/8, 239 pounds, 4.60 40

9. Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida (70): 6-foot 1/4, 191 pounds, 4.59 40

10. Ed Reynolds, S, Stanford (69): 6-foot 7/8, 206 pounds, 4.51 40

jets pick 4th and 15th and 37th in the 4th

mcgill is more of the type of corner I thought the jets needed outside, a guy with size, but they can't take another corner, can they ?   the dex pick looks worse now unless the jets have mcgill with a 7th rd grade

mccarron is in play here, maybe savage

how does a 6'4" WR who runs a 4.34 40 make it this far ?  pot head ?  child molester ?  hands like hill ?  if byrant isn't a disaster of a guy, I really want him

9 picks left.

I expect:

- probably 2 WR - one in round 4 and another later (Ellington, Bryant, Abberderis)

- 1 project QB - because when you have 12 picks and a history of no QBs at all, it's what you should do (Savage, Mettenberger, McCarron)

- another CB or two - there's plenty of room for roster turnover at this position (McGill, Desir, Purifoy)

- offensive line depth - I'm not sure what sort of progress last year's picks have made, but it'd be ideal to have Colon's replacement ready for next season (Yankey)

- pass rushers - obviously, but I don't know much about the guys left, I won't pretend to have preferences

These three 4th rounders will define this draft, imo.

Bryant is Hill.  Hill is Bryant.  Too lean and not sudden enough, some dropsies.  Needs to be stronger.  Straight line speed that doesn't translate well.  Good deep threat when he makes the catch.

thanks guys.

4.34 is amazing for a guy that size.  idzik played WR and coached WR's, so it will be interesting to see if he grabs him

Do you remember Derrick Hamliton from Clemson? Basically the same player.
