The Fat Man
Herman Edwards and Rich Kotite. What do they both have in common? For starters they both have losing records. What seperates them is that Rich Kotite actually stayed and stuck it out even after a 1-15 season. Uncle Tom Edwards squirmed his way out. Some folks will argue that going to the playoffs 3 years out of 5 is a great achievement. It isn't! There is only 1 Lombardi Trophy. They only argument that can be made is that making the playoffs is a benchmark for success. It isn't! The true sign is the state of the team and this is where Kotite and Edwards are not equals. The Jets are worse off now than they ever were. Edwards is a liar and a thief! Kotite was an honest loser!
faba
Kotite was in over his head and I think in retrospect Edwards was too- both of these guys do not have what it takes to be competent head coaches WE really need some one in charge of this organization that is a great football mind- I hate to say it but the hated Giants with Accorsi have this
LionelRichie
Uncle Tom Edwards squirmed his way out. this board is pretty lenient in terms of what is acceptable. while not a moderator, i think the use of 'uncle tom' is way over the line. i hope the board moderators agree that this should not be tolerated. The N word which I would never use is used like a Verb in all Black Rap Music and Movies..Go figure! Plus one could say that Hermie had a Uncle Tom on his German side so it's not a Slur..Unless it was Uncle Tom Shane of course!!
Sharrow
Actually, just saying its derogatory isnt a defense for not allowing it. Calling someone stupid is derogatory. Calling someone an uncle tom is used to describe how they act, not what they are (as the n word is). I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with its use or if it should be allowed though. afosomf
Sh- if i call someone an Uncle Tom, i am referring to an African American, i'm not referring to a white guy or tom shane i would think i would be offended if i were black if i call someone stupid, it transcends across all genders and races, it is racist free! Sharrow
Of course you would be offended. No one said that herm wouldn't be offended if someone called him that, he would. But he would probably also be mad if someone publicly called him an idiot too. But calling him an uncle tom isn't derogatory toward any other black person but him. The Gun Of Bavaria
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Tom Uncle Tom is a pejorative term for a black person who is perceived by other blacks to be obsequiously servile to white authority figures, or who simply are perceived as being unnecessarily accommodating of whites. The term Uncle Tom comes from the title character of white author Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, a story against slavery in which the slave Tom helps a fellow slave to escape and is brutally murdered by his master when he refuses to give her location up. It is used to denote African Americans whose political views or allegiances are labeled by critics as detrimental to black Americans as a group. This term has been used by some African-Americans to malign black Republicans and appointees, due to their participation in a Republican administration, although it has also been used to describe Democratic African-American politicians accused of ignoring the African-American community such as former Los Angeles mayor Thomas Bradley. Fat Man, Herm Edwards is an a$$hole in the true definition of the word a$$hole, but how in any way, shape or form based upon what the term Uncle Tom means does he fall into that definition? Bad choice of words. While I don't think you meant it in a racist way persee, I don't see how the term's addition helped at all?
