There probably wouldn't be so much dead money, but hey some of that had to be pushed to fit Fitzpatrick in 2016. It's $9m in dead cap, but they're not paying him another $9m. That money's already been paid. So we're not really spending $9m on him this year any more than we spent "only" $10m on him back in 2016. It was 2 years at $18.5m per (on the heels of 2 years of Revis at $19.5m per), with 3 more year-to-year team options at an average of another $16m per. They could - and very well might - designate him as a June 1 cut. That'd spread the $9m over 2 years ($3m this year, $6m next year). Depends on what other FAs they do or don't sign, as I'd have to imagine they have plenty of time before his $250K workout bonus is due, and will forbid him from entering Florham Park in case he gets injured on Jets property (which would kick in a 3rd year of guaranteed salary if he isn't 100% healed by final cutdown day). Dead on as to the reason why Mo was structured that way (bringing back Fitz, which he pigeonholed himself into by settling on Hackenberg).
jack48
I just cannot see some team(s) really wanting him, where they might trade because they do not think they can get him on the open market. He is that much of a dog.
kmnj
one of the MANY reasons our gm should be fired and good call by Bowles making mo our captain and calling him a "leader"

He at least seemed worth the extension at the time, he stopped giving a sh*t after getting it so Mac clearly didn't have any read on his character. Bowles got to watch his lazy ass every day before announcing him a leader
