Bronx
For all the Browns haters. Cleveland Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. has torn ACL in left knee BEREA, Ohio -- Odell Beckham Jr.'s season is officially over. The Cleveland Browns announced the star wide receiver suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. Beckham underwent an MRI on Monday morning, which confirmed the tear. He was injured on the Browns' second snap Sunday while attempting to chase down a Cincinnati Bengals defender following a Baker Mayfield interception. Banged Up Like Beckham Odell Beckham Jr. played 43 out of a possible 48 games in his first three NFL seasons. But with his torn ACL costing him the rest of this year, Beckham will have played only 39 out of 64 games over the past four seasons. 2014-16 2017-20 * 1 game missed due to suspension -- ESPN Stats & Info Games played 43* 39 Pct games played 90% 61% "Obviously it's a big loss," Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday. "He's a huge part of what we do. So now we'll just have to huddle up, and find some different ways and find some different people and put them in that role. "You never replace a player of Odell's caliber with one player. It's going to take multiple guys," Stefanski added. "That's the challenge we have and I think our guys will be up to the challenge." On Mayfield's first passing attempt against the Bengals, he tried to force a throw to Beckham down the sideline. The ball, however, was underthrown and picked off by Darius Phillips. Beckham turned around to chase the Cincinnati defensive back the other way, but crashed into Phillips and Cleveland fullback Andy Janovich, who also was trying to make the tackle. After going 0-of-5 in the first quarter, Mayfield bounced back without Beckham to complete a franchise-record 21 consecutive passes and five touchdowns, including a game-winning, 24-yard scoring strike to rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones with 15 seconds remaining. Afterward, Mayfield admitted to feeling guilty for the underthrow that led to Beckham's injury. "I'm probably going to beat myself up about that one for a long time," Mayfield said. "He's a guy who fights for this team, and in doing that, he got hurt. ... it sucks." Mayfield said that at halftime Beckham told him to "go be great" in the second half. Mayfield went on to become just the second quarterback in NFL history to throw three go-ahead touchdown passes in a fourth quarter in Cleveland's 37-34 win. "That was what he left me with to open up the second half," Mayfield said of Beckham's encouragement. "That was something I continued to remember throughout the second half." Mayfield also gave a shout-out to Beckham on Instagram after Sunday's win.
joewilly12
Never like to see any athlete hurt. OBJ will be back.
Jet_Engine1
Mayfield plays better without him, so....
JoJoTownsell1
There was some talk on this board about bringing OBJ on board before the season. Thankfully we didn't pull the trigger. Obviously, the ACL injury is unrelated but he has been hurt, suspended, a distraction or just average for 4 straight years. At this point, when healthy, he is basically worth a 5/6 round pick.

Based on talent he'd be the #1 on many teams but it's just not worth the headache/injury risk. At least not if you have to give up a meaningful draft pick or a chunk of cap space

How do you know they were severely injured? It seems more likely that it was non "severe" hamstring pulls that the Jets babied in a losing season. Even minor hamstring injuries can linger if not allowed to heal completely and I'm guessing the Jets waited until he was 100% before allowing him to practice.
joewilly12
Browns WR Odell Beckham (knee) said he's out for the season. OBJ tore his ACL Sunday against the Bengals. Beckham appeared to get a cleat caught in the turf as he chased down a defender after Baker Mayfield's first pass of the game was intercepted. He clutched his knee afterward, in obvious pain. Beckham's absence will open up playing time for Rashard Higgins, who led the Browns in receiving against the Bengals. Jarvis Landry could see a bump in targets with Beckham out. OBJ ends his 2020 season with 23 catches on 43 targets for 319 yards and three touchdowns. He had three carries for 72 yards and a touchdown too. Beckham, who will be 28 in November, is under contract with the Browns through the 2023 season. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that $12.971 million of OBJ's $15.75 million due in 2021 "is guaranteed for injury and converts to a full guarantee if he’s on the roster the third day of the league year." That nearly guarantees he'll be on the Browns' roster unless he's traded.

batman10023
Is it me or do more players get torn acl nowadays versus say 15 years ago?
jetophile
Well, here's the thing. If he wasn't such an immature coddled brat cancer whose behavior was largely enabled and went equally unpunished he could've been 10 times the player that he is. I feel bad he's hurt on a pedstrian level and you never want to see that, but it's hard to muster sympathy beyond the pedestrian for an essentially unlikable turd. Speaking of turds, he'll have plenty of time to do whatever.
