If I was the head coach of the Jets, and I knew that if I didn't make the playoffs next season I would get fired, then why wouldn't you assure everyone that the team will make the playoffs next season?

If you make the playoffs, you get to keep your job, and you proved that you were right.

If you don't make the playoffs, you will get fired.  

You lose nothing by making the assurance, and you gain everything by making the assurance. 

Whether or not you make the assurance, you will get fired by not making the playoffs.  

It's very simple.  So simple, that even Robert Saleh understands it.
