John Clayton of ESPN.com reported on Monday that Patriots runningback Corey Dillon has been given a contract extension by New England. Dillon, who rushed for 1,635 yards in his first season with the Patriots, has reportedly agreed to a contract extension that could keep him a Patriot the remainder of his career. "This deal is one that allows me to end my career as a Patriot," Dillon told the website. According to the report the restructuring of Dillon's deal guarantees that he will make $10 million over the next two seasons, and if the Patriots pick up the option in 2007, he could make $25 million over the next five years.

It will keep him a Patriot for the rest of his career? Won't that be three games into next season? It's nice to see a good guy like Dillon get his just rewards. He always does well when he has a long-term deal in his pocket.

It sounds to me like it's fundamentally a 2 year/10 mil deal that replaces most of his old deal (some SB carries over) with some going as a dead money hit when they decline the option.

If I'm right they went from this

2005-- 6.651 mil hit

2006-- UFA

to this

2005-- 4.500 mil hit

2006-- 4.000 mil hit

2007-- 2.000 mil dead money hit to release.

If so giddyup, I'm all about this.

and Bradway should pay attention: THIS is how you extend a greybeard runningback who's playing at an all-pro level.... you pay him his cash but you minimize your freaking risk too....

Yea, you're right.

I would definately rather have Curtis Martin than Corey Dillon. :^o#-o

Bologna! You give him a 6 year inflating scale deal that pay him $12 mil at the end of the deal! Ha!

What's interesting is before coming to the Pats

Dillon never played on a winning Team..And last

year had a career year at the age of 30! Martin

at 31 also had a Career year, but in his Career

has only been on 2 losing Teams 2003 Jets and the

1995 Pats..Dillon started 14 games last year..Good

thing he wasn't in all 16!!

Actually Savage, Dillon started 15 games only missing the first game against the Steelers.

If he started that game, all the "CuMar is the NFL's leading rusher" would have been a moot point. =D>

Corey Dillon is a fantastic RB. Only question with him is durability. The last few years, He has been nicked up quite a bit.

But he's a heck of a RB. Almost as good as Curtis.

Now that's unfair Tex!! You might as well say if

a host of other backs got the same amt of carries

Martin did he'd only be 4 or 5th best!! [-X

True, but by comparison, he has alot less mileage.

In 34 more games, Martin has 1400ish more touches then Dillon.

I think his dings last year could have had two causes. One, Dillon admitted his offseason work with the Bengals paled by comparison to the Patriots program. Last, being on all those bad team, he never had an 18 game season with as many touches.

IMHO he will not have as many dings with another year in the program under his belt.

Not to mention Cory had a better yards per playing on

a laughing stock Team! Would you be talking about

Martin if he went to the Bengals and not the Pats?

Dillon never had a 300 carry season till year 4

2000..First 3 years he had 233 262 263..And he made

1000+ every year..Put Martin on that Team with that

amt of carries and you lose your Martin got 1000+

every year of his career that you like to brag

about!! You need more than just Talent to be Great!

Being in the right place at the right Time has alot

to do with it..That's what made George Seifert a

Great HC on Paper..And helped a Certain Running Back

to do the same!! =D>

Corey Dillon is an excellent RB.

Curtis Martin is an excellent RB.

CASE CLOSED.

I'd like to have seen what Corey Dillon would have done in paul hacketts system aka "HB dive" or "HB Draw"

Dillon can break Tackles and take it all the way!

Dillon would have loved Hackett providing Hackett

had recruited him like he did Martin! Hell just

give Dillon Martin's carries by his avg and you

get 14,483 yds to Martins 13,366..And that's using

his Career with the Bengals..Who knows what he could

have done on a Playoff Team his whole Career?
