FoxJet
Patriots | Branch files a grievance against the team Fri, 1 Sep 2006 12:56:26 -0700 Tom E. Curran, of NBC Sports.com, reports New England Patriots WR Deion Branch and his agent, Jason Chayut, have filed a grievance against the team with the NFLPA, according to sources. They are asking a special master to hear the grievance in an emergency meeting Friday, Sept. 1. Although the Seattle Seahawks talked numbers with Chayut, the New York Jets wound up being the only team to talk to New England about what its contract demands would be. The Jets offer, the source said, was for six years and $36 million but it had a "funky structure." Chayut is alleging that there was a verbal agreement between he and the Patriots that New England would deal Branch if presented with a "fair and reasonable" offer. Chayut also alleges that the Jets presented New England with that offer but that the Patriots didn't act on it.

Alk
Well it's not like BB's word has meant something in the past. The part that Poston Jr. left out was that the Patriots had to agree to the compensation.
SeniorFlaJet
The part that Poston Jr. left out was that the Patriots had to agree to the compensation. It was my understanding that the Jets and Branch had to agree to a contract which they did but the pats didn't like the compensation package the Jets offered. That is not mentioned in all of this. PFSIKH
That is correct. Nothing but selective hearing from Branch's dip$hit agent. Which has been the cause of the problem all along. The agent complains about how the Patriots switched the original rookie deal from 4 yo 5 years. an lillegal move anbd one that could get an agent fired if unreported. Ask Potson. Then in subsequent years, he signs other draftees to 5 year deals. Now, he is at it again. For Deoin's sake, after he gets a contract he needs to get rid of this guy. GimmeShelter
From the Globe/Herald: Sources say the Pats have backed off requests for two first-round picks and would accept a first-round pick and a middle-round pick. 124
Could any of this possibly lead to Branch landing with us before the Season Opener @ Tennessee? Although I would think he wouldn't play much Week 1.
PatsFanTX
Could any of this possibly lead to Branch landing with us before the Season Opener @ Tennessee? If Branch was going to the Jets, it would have been done yesterday. Branch has only two options: 1). Get his greedy @ss on the field for the Pats. 2). Sit out the first 10 games. joewilly
I agree. jets won't get him & seattle's not gonna step up either. you can't really call branch a greedy a$$ cause that 3 year deal means he'll have to accept his grossly low $$$ for a #1 reciever next year. the pats don't appear to be too far off the present market rate for branch though. I thought the spread woulda been more.

If so then he deserves to be paid better then LC and LC is making what? 5? 6 million a year? 1.05 just doesn't cut it for a #1. Deion Branch = NYJet in 07. IMO, the Pats made a very fair offer to Branch and he turned it down. 2). Although Branch is a very good WR, you can easily find 10 better WR's in the NFL. Therefore, he does not warrant top 10 money. 3). His agent is screwing him royally. 4). Not my problem the Jets overpaid for Coles, and Branch is the better WR of the two. GimmeShelter
I don't really see how it's "clear" considering the Patriots offered him $6 million a year to begin with. Per NE's own papers Alk. Both deals yesterday were six-year deals worth roughly $39 million with $13 million upfront and $23 million spread over the first three years. That is about 30 percent higher than New England's best offer, a five-year, $28 million deal with $11 million guaranteed. The Patriots had also offered a three-year extension with an $8 million signing bonus split evenly over two years and salaries of $1.4 million, $4.3 million, and $4.75 million. PATS should pony up especially with Chad Jackson unable to learn a NFL playbook.
